Different views and aspects of people journeys

Hi, I'm not really sure if anyone has or did start this forum post yet but if not I would like to hear a little about your story of becoming a tech how long it took you. How was your test which dealerships you went to do your training and what were your difficulties along the road if you guys don't mind sharing

So many thread on this already...

Work hard and dedicate your life to it then you should be fine throughout this trades. It is hard work because majority of the money you make will go into Tools and School for you to become a professional. As for myself, I am a lazy bastard. I switched from being a Lvl1 Lube Tech to become a Service Advisor. Why service advising? I don't get my hands dirty and job is very slack hence I am posting this @ work. Also yet, I get to watch & learn from the Techs in the shop. And on the downside, I will never get my Red Seal doing this lol..

Dealer life can be shit, small shop life can be shit. Either way, it takes persistence and dedication to get into, and I'm hammering away at my third year hours until I return for school next July.

I enjoy working on cars (usually) but only as a hobby. It's something I would never want to do as a career.

...so what am I now going to school for? Heavy Duty Mechanics.

Go figure.

I'm right there with you. I'm in school to be an aircraft mechanic because I don't want to work on cars as a career.

All the mechanics that I know who started out as car enthusiasts drive stock shitboxes now because the last thing they want to do after working on cars all day, is work on cars.
