09 m3 with no title

2009 BMW M3 E92 coupe smg

sorry for the stupid thread..
But wonder whats the deal is with this car? what does it exactly mean by no title? is it basically a salvage?

Redlines_Daily 09-25-2013 07:06 AM

I don't have much to contribute, but that looks sketchy as heck. 25000k, guy says no problems at all, but willing to sell without the engine..make me think it was stolen. The interior is filthy..he clearly doesn't treat the car with respect, probably because it has little value. Interesting to know the story though.

evlee 09-25-2013 07:08 AM

stay far away. rebuild from back east or US?.... look at the interior shot, notice the random headlight sitting on the passanger side floor.

look what i found with the phone number they provided

I believe that means its either salvage or stolen and recovered type of thing.

Won't be able to insure it here. Very sketchy indeed

same car?

http://www.thechopshopcycle.com/inde...t01returnid=19

canadian car judging from the km/h speedo. maybe there would be more info if you got the VIN and do a carfax. anything reported would show up on its history.... or not?

i am looking at the pics from the link evlee posted and i see some of the cars are in the queensborough icbc yard (i've had the misfortune of being their once... sigh).

if this is the same place i'm thinking of, they are located in the complex where minnam racing and richmond motorsports used to be. a colleague of mine bought parts from a totaled STi from them a few months back. he was told they buy insurance/salvage wrecks or recoveries and part them out.

dared3vil0 09-25-2013 07:44 AM

Does anyone notice the silt and crap all over the floor and steering wheel? Yeah that's the stuff WATER leaves behind. This is a flood damaged car. A.k.a RUN away!

lowside67 09-25-2013 07:49 AM

This is a "dismantle only" ICBC flood damaged or total theft vehicle. Basically there are cars that are written off and then can be repaired - these become rebuilts - and there are dismantled cars that ICBC will never allow back on the road. This is one of the latter. It truly is sold by ICBC as "parts only" and it speaks volumes to the ethics of the seller that they would sell it knowing it was going back on the road in another country.

I think the dirt would be more uniform if it was flood damaged, to me, it looks like someone with dirty hands was touching everything

fliptuner 09-25-2013 07:58 AM

RSPI to the rescue lol, nice work.

In general, untitled/unregistered/uninsurable vehicles are dismantle only, stolen or from out of province/country without proper import documentation.

Maybe if I really really loved the E46 I'd buy a 330i and buy that car and try to make a V8 powered 330i ZHP-M lol.

But yea, shady as hell

dared3vil0 09-25-2013 08:14 AM

You'd end up with 50+k used E46 330i...

:fullofwin: Probably a good thing I'm not a millionaire

Not to mention e46 purists would say I ruined it by replacing the perfectly balanced I6 with a V8, and the lovers of the new e92 would say I ruined it by putting such a nice engine into such a dated car

jpark 09-25-2013 08:26 AM

i dont think its flooded. If it was, there would be some sort of a dirt pattern in the interior. It seems more like it sat in a yard for a long time and workers just moved it around with their greasy hands

oh, and s65 motor in e46 has been done before already

lowside67 09-25-2013 08:30 AM

Everything has been done. The question is WHY would you do it? The E92 M3 is not much heavier than the E46 M3 if you are building a racecar, ie stripping out the heavier seats, heavier infotainment system, etc

lowside67 09-25-2013 08:35 AM

PS I have revised my estimate of what I think it is. I think it's actually an Alberta salvage car which would explain:
no title (Alberta cars are sold on Bill of Sale only)
no holes in front bumper (Alberta cars no front plate required)
fresh snow tires (well duh)

Still can never be rebuilt in Canada (legally) though.

that is pure sex

lowside67 09-25-2013 09:57 AM

Did somebody say V8 in a BMW 3 series? :D

Interesting fact, the S65B40 V8 in the E92 is 33lbs lighter than the Straight 6 in the E46.

The new S55B30 Straight 6 in the new F8X M3/M4 will weight 195kg vs the 202kg of the V8.

^
Why does that car look so familiar? :troll:

jing 09-25-2013 10:57 AM

FYI dismantle only cars can still be reregistered again, albeit under a new modified/altered title with a new BC assigned VIN which obviously requires a lengthy reinspection process. That is how my old S13 ended back on the road

So who's got a set of tools and wants to put this engine in my e36 for a few weeks of me being their personal chef? Anyone? Anyone?

inv4zn 09-25-2013 03:34 PM

^I'll do it.
Spoiler!

daaaaaaaaaammmmmnnnnnnn

:ahwow:

Autorice 09-25-2013 03:51 PM

you don't want the headache. in order to bring back a 'dismantle only' or 'certificate of destruction' car you will need three donor cars with significant contribution of parts from each car. ie chassis from one, interior from another, suspension/motor from another. you cannot simply add 'headlights' from one vin, 'wheels' from another vin and 'rest of the car' from that M3. They will not approve that.
