jonwon 01-02-2016 08:32 PM

Don't recall the 3rd round even being close

nah 01-02-2016 08:32 PM

Condit got robbed, just look at the numbers. Lawler had 48 shots landed heading into the 5th!

Condit - 1, 3, 4
Lawler - 2, 5

jonwon 01-02-2016 08:42 PM

Well 99.99999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999 9% of the world scored it 48-47 Condit except these 2 motherfuckers judging the fight.

Robbie Lawler def. Carlos Condit :: UFC 195 :: MMA Decisions

Most of the media had Condit as well.

Not really racist! 01-02-2016 09:31 PM

if anyone missed the main event or wants to re-watch pm me, ill send you the full fight link

i would post it but i don't think its allowed

Derek_N84 01-02-2016 10:41 PM

I really thought it was rounds 1,3 and 4 for Carlos. I was pretty choked at the decision :okay:

Round 3 didn't have any significant shots but a lot more output and strikes landed by Condit. I guess the judges weighed on Robbie's octagon control and more power in his strikes landed? Can't really see how else they would have considered Lawler winning that round.

SkinnyPupp 01-03-2016 06:40 AM

Condit didn't get robbed. Round 3 was really close, and 2 judges gave it to Robbie. I gave it to him as well, but I wouldn't argue hard against giving it to Condit.

If round 3 was clearly Condit's, then he got robbed/fucked/whatever. It was really close though, so you can't say that.

It depends on if you value volume over damage and control. Condit threw tons of light strikes for the most part, only throwing hard when countering. That just isn't enough to win the championship.

MarkyMark 01-03-2016 07:49 AM

I'd still give it to Condit. Robbie really didn't do a whole lot till the 5th, but he'd do a few Chris Leben bursts of punches and suddenly he wins the whole round? He ate a lot of shots as well even when he poured it on

RRxtar 01-03-2016 10:16 AM

Robbie landed 11 shots in round 3. Carlos threw 78.

Robbie did the same thing he did against Hendrick and rory. Coast for 4:30 of the round and throw one flurry, and coast for 20 minutes of the fight and come out hard in the 5th

Nevermind the numbers, look at the fight.

Watching round 3 again, I can't believe I even thought it was that close. Out of all those 78 strikes Condit apparently threw, only a few got past Robbie's guard. A couple leg kicks, and a punch that glanced. A couple knees to the body near the end. The rest are hitting him in the forearms and hands, or kicks that are being checked. One good body kick. I doubt he landed 11 strikes, none of which were doing any damage. Most seemed to have 60% effort behind them, except the body kick.

Meanwhile nearly every one of Robbie's strikes were damaging, including an elbow that stunned Condit and almost put him down.

Watch it again, most of the damage was done by one guy, even if the other threw more strikes.

I've always said metrics don't tell the full story of a fight, and can be misleading.

Do you not think Robbie won rounds 2 and 5?

MarkyMark 01-03-2016 02:23 PM

I had Condit winning round 2, unless one big punch wins an entire round

E-SPEC 01-03-2016 06:45 PM

Condit should have finished him if he wanted to win the fight. Never leave it those stupid judges.

That's why Lawler goes apeshit at the end of fights because that's what usually defines it for the judges

SkinnyPupp 01-03-2016 09:32 PM

I just went through the 3rd round 2 more times, this time paying close attention to the most significant strikes of the fight. I made the gifs below, ignoring all strikes that were either blocked, or didn't connect to the target significantly. I left out circling, clinch, etc. This is JUST the strikes that landed. There were something like 70 thrown by Condit and 11 by Lawler, and here are the ones that landed:

Condit:

Lawler:

.

There are 5 clips for Condit and 6 for Lawler in those gifs. There was one knee by Condit which is hard to tell if it landed flush but I don't think it did.

Which fighter had the more significant significant strikes? I'd say Lawler. But looking at the fight again under intense scrutiny, it actually is really close. Condit was the one controlling the cage, with Lawler doing most of the circling on the outside this round.

No matter who you think won that razor close round, it wasn't a "robbery" or a bad decision. It was a close fight decided by a close round, and the champion finished the fight without getting knocked down or taken down... I think the result itself is the best. And yes if Condit can get his motivation back, a rematch would be excellent.

MarkyMark 01-04-2016 07:21 AM

I think it's the thought that while most of Condits shots weren't hard (some definitely were) he was the one who was pushing the pace while Robbie just stood there playing defence. Even if you land the harder shots its hard to justify winning the round based on a couple of flurries while the other guy works you over the rest of the time. People might not like point fighting but it's pretty clear to me that Condit was in control most of the fight until round 5, its just that Lawler did so little that when he finally did something it seemed significant.

Mr.Money 01-04-2016 08:34 AM

i give it up to Condit for taking those punches like a champ and staying up tho,i was going for Robbie too since he was the defending champ,I saw him wake up at the end & really spread it on him hard...i can't wait till they announce a rematch really...both got knocked down & they didn't care to try finish it for some reason,You see anyone in UFC like that they Jump on it.

Berzerker 01-04-2016 09:31 AM

Octagon Control. It's one of the measures of the judging. If one guy is pushing and controlling he should get the edge if all other things are equal. Condit pressed the whole fight.

Berz out.
