GSP to make an official announcement this Friday.

Y! SPORTS

UFC welterweight champion George St-Pierre’s future has remained under a cloud of secrecy over the weeks following his split-decision victory over Johny Hendricks at UFC 167 on Nov. 16 in Las Vegas.
That soon may change.

According to a report from The Canadian Press, St-Pierre is currently on vacation in Dubai, but will be making an appearance in Quebec City later this week, where he will answer questions regarding his future.

Following his victory over Hendricks, St-Pierre stirred up a pot of controversy, saying, “[I’m going to] hang my gloves up for a little bit and make sense of my life,” without offering any sense of what he meant.

He did not say he was going to retire, but he also didn’t say he wasn’t when UFC broadcaster Joe Rogan asked him point-blank.

St-Pierre seems to have come to some sort of decision regarding his future, as he confirmed to The Canadian Press via text message that he would be announcing his future at the Friday appearance in Quebec City.

UFC president Dana White told The Canadian Press that he was letting St-Pierre “have his time” and that he didn’t know what his future plans were.
St-Pierre’s manager, Rodolphe Beaulieu, said Friday’s appearance at a skating rink was a previously scheduled appearance for fans and sponsors, but added that St-Pierre would field a few questions from media.

TUF20 will be all female. winner will be named 115lb womens champion. Invicta is loaning 11 fighters to the UFC. A few legit fighters in the bunch.

Sadly for my penis, no Michelle Waterson as she dropped to 105lbs.

SkinnyPupp 12-12-2013 02:20 PM

Dana finally got clued in that womens MMA is legit, and they don't need to dull the show down by having a group of boring, forgettable male fighters.

murd0c 12-12-2013 02:32 PM

Dana likes money and the women are helping him get paid and reach a bigger market which is his goal.

Shane del Rosario passed away the other day. It looked like he was just about to make progress :(

GSP will take a long "pause" with fighting and has vacated the belt

murd0c 12-13-2013 11:30 AM

I think he's done, hes gotten shit kicked the last three fights and he's leaving on top. He's done everything he could do in the sport so why fight until he loses.

A fighter can't retire too soon, but they can certainly retire too late. GSP is a very smart man, and I hope many learn from his example.

RRxtar 12-13-2013 11:53 AM

I think he is probably done as well. And if he comes back it wont be at the same level. If he's at the point where after thinking about it for a month, and he is still willing to vacate the title and step away for long enough that he doesn't know when he will be back, I think that is going to be at absolute minimum a year maybe more. If he does come back, in say a year and a half or 2 years, hes going to be 34+ years old with a fair bit of fight milage on him.

He said he nearly pulled out of the Hendricks fight due to whatever the issue is.

jdmhaze 12-13-2013 11:55 AM

I've always been a huge GSP fan, and would like to see him to leave on a high note. Hopefully this is his retirement and not just a break.

MarkyMark 12-13-2013 12:05 PM

Saw this coming, I hope he does retire it seems like he's lost a step since coming back from his injury. He's been taking some good damage his last few fights

One of the best, if not "the" best.......thanx for getting me into MMA , GSP!!!!!

Zedbra 12-13-2013 12:47 PM

I like that Rogan comment as it is so true. I remember when they kept letting Liddell get smashed past his prime - was bad for Liddell and the UFC.

You have to figure that fighting 7 years of only the best fighters in the world would just drain you mentally - I'll miss GSP but enjoy what happens next in the division.

RRxtar 12-13-2013 02:08 PM

Im very excited to see the post GSP chapter of the WW division unfold. There are 5 or 6 guys who could be champ on any given night and it might be interesting to see the title change hands a few times and title fights happen more than once or twice a year.

411ken 12-13-2013 02:13 PM

So Hendricks fights Lawler for the title now. That should be a good scrap

I bet that Dana and the UFC will do whatever it takes to get Rory back to the top and get the title and start their new "GSP". I have a feeling it will be Rory vs Condit

Hendricks-Lawler
Rory - Condit

that event (if it happens) wouldn't be too bad to kick start post GSP

411ken 12-13-2013 02:16 PM

also, apparently EA sports will announce the new cover fighter for their new ufc game..

Imagine if it's jones and GSP lol

2 n r 12-13-2013 03:33 PM

heard its Gus on the cover

edit yup. Gus and jj

I think he'll be back. His issues are mental, not physical. The reason he took so much damage lately is because his head hasn't been 100% in it lately. He was probably down to 80% by last fight, and the next one would be even lower (considering he got beat in every way but the score cards)

He'll take time to heal his head, work out his issues, and all the while will be training hard.

Berzerker 12-13-2013 04:59 PM

Bet Rory is really kicking his own ass now. Had he won that fight it would have been Rory - Hendricks for the title.

jonwon 12-13-2013 07:42 PM

lawler for title already? dont agree with it but hendricks and lawler are gonna throw bombs :fullofwin:

fucking ben askren man... guy's annoying as fuck and really starting to get on my nerves. i was really hoping dana was gonna sign him for the sole purpose of getting smashed

MarkyMark 12-14-2013 06:40 AM

After listening to gsp's conference call it really does sound like he'll be back at some point. I bet there will be rumblings of his return before 2014 is over.

Berzerker 12-14-2013 08:28 AM

Maybe he just needs some "unsupervised" training time. ;)
