Apple iPad AIR / iPad Mini Retina http://img706.imageshack.us/img706/1997/fb44.jpg starts at $499 16gig wifi model ..and of course, we have the new iPad Mini Retina starting at $399. worth the upgrade from a ipad 3? |
surprised it took so long for a thread to pop up. I'm happy they brought the mini with a faster processor, wasn't all that interested in retina but thats a nice plus. Pissed that it's $399 though. At that price I think I might go back to the nexus 7. I was hoping it was going to stay at $329 or maybe $349 but at $399 it's almost double the price of the N7 :( |
It still doesn't have front facing speakers, overall it looks nice and sleek. But with phone screens getting bigger I'm finding myself using my iPad less and less. Don't think I will spend the money on this. |
^^+1. I've been looking at buying a tablet for a while now and the look of the mini really attracted to me but wasn't so sure of that display. Now as much as i was looking forward to this update, with the price bump to $419 (Canadian pricing) I probably still not gonna jump on board. Especially considering all the tablet owners I've talked to tell me tablets are absolutely useless |
Tablets are useless if you use something like a note 2/3 or if you had high expectations that its productivity would be similar to that of a laptop. It's more just for light web browsing, videos and simple games. Hell, I prefer laying down and just randomly watch youtube videos on my ipad than to fire up my laptop to do the same. |
I have been waiting for the mini retina, but given the price difference between the mini and the air only being $100 now... I'm leaning towards the Air. We'll see once I play with both :) |
I read that there is now an iPad Mini 2nd generation, but I couldn't find any differences on the internet versus the iPad Mini they have now. Is it still the same innards as the iPad 2? I'm not interested in the Air or Mini Retina.. |

The Retina screen in new iPad Mini is a big difference. And so is the A7 chip. It's also slightly thicker and heavier than the first-gen Mini. It should be called the iPad Air Mini since it has the same guts as the iPad Air, only in a smaller package. |

Apple ? iPad ? Compare iPad models. Mentioned in the post above but its: A7 vs A5 chip (64 vs 32 bit) 30g heavier than original 0.3mm thicker high resolution (2048x1536 vs 1024x768) MIMO wifi - apparently 2-2 times faster I wonder if that 0.3mm thickness will affect the fit for current cases like the dodocase |
I sold my iPad4 in anticipation of the retina Mini (the iPad4 was too heavy after a while for some light browsing/reading on bed before sleep) Now with the iPad Air... I'm not so sure. But I would wait until black friday/cyber monday to order this. Not going first wave this time around. |

Ah, I understood it as the iPad Mini was updated as well as them releasing an iPad Mini Retina.. |

Did they say if they upgraded the RAM on the ipad mini? 512MB is nowhere near enough, especially with ios7 |
Kind of a boring announcement. Only real surprises were the 0.4lb drop in weight for the iPad and an A7 in the Retina Mini (I think everyone expected an A6). No Apple TV upgrade, no iWatch or anything else "new". Little surprised that they claim the iPad Air has 2X the graphics power of the iPad 4 considering it's an A7 and not an A7X. Unless they did something to the internal clocks (perhaps the GPU is throttled in the iPhone because of heat/power consumption). Also interesting the battery size in the iPad Air has gone down considerably but still retains the same battery life. I don't think the A7 is responsible for this much difference so perhaps they are now using an IGZO screen (which has been rumored since the last iPad/iPhone). |
For people who are getting the Wifi+LTE version, it might be a good decision to hop over the border and get the T-Mobile version instead. The LTE should still work with big 3's band, but T-Mobile is giving out 200mb (not sure for how long) for free. It might be a good deal as you can get a sim card with some free light data when you cross the border. |

I'm gonna skip the iPad Mini Retina, I'll wait till they have Touch ID across the line up. Its hard to go back typing passcode once you are used to Touch ID. |
Ipad 2 is almost unusable with ios 7,so if the 3 is even worse, wow Posted via RS Mobile |
my iPad mini is fine with iOS7, the spec is exactly like an iPad 2. iPad 3 isn't much faster than the iPad 2, yet it has to run such a large resolution. iOS7 auto update does work very well. I went to sleep after watching the keynotes and when I woke up, iWork and iLife has already been updated to the newest version! |
As much as I like the ipad air I might get the new nokia tablet. My sister had the ipad3 and my dad has the ipad2 and I had the ipad3 and ipad mini (sold them both). Might want to try something different. |

If you're truly into tech you should read Anandtech's review of the iPad Air. They've done a lot more testing and have some interesting updates on the A7 processor. To quote Anand Lal Shimpi: "It's better than I thought." |
