can't believe these kind of things happen especially in an environment full of adults

hope all is well with you, tie those loose ends and never look back at such a wretched place

MG1 07-04-2014 08:32 AM

Wow, just read the entire thread. murd0c, you da man. It worked out in the end, but those people need to be held accountable. They are going to do it again and again to another person.

trancehead 07-05-2014 01:12 AM

it is definitely not an easy thing to go through what u did, commending you for that

i am curious though, did the environment change at all (for better or worse) after you had that 3:1 meeting?

d1gbick 07-05-2014 02:16 AM

congrats on the job but back to your last post about taking customers orders... you are clear of any non compete agreements right? Did you possibly sign anything about this in the past 8 years that could come back and bite you

It did get a bit awkward for a bit but over time it got better. They were playing it by the book and my boss was still acting like a complete power tripping dick which I couldn't deal with anymore.

I'm still in the same industry and my new job has the exact same customers so thankfully I don't have to work about it coming back and biting me in the ass.

Ronin 07-06-2014 12:12 AM

Good for you, dude. You're definitely a lot more chill than me. I would've scorched the earth on these people if that shit happened to me.

And it's a woman? Well, call her the C-word and that will be the end of that.

B!tch 07-06-2014 07:26 AM

CONGRATS on the new job.

I know it is a forum and not a court so pardon me for living up to my user name.

You said:
"I of course gave 2 1/2 weeks notice and let walked me out the door right away"

I am hoping what you meant to say was I of course gave 2.5 weeks notice and they walked me out the door right away. If that is what happened, they owe you two weeks.

If however you gave to weeks notice and they let you walk out the door right away. It is going to be your word against theirs that you asked to not work the notice period, that they were ok with it and "let" you leave right away. If this is the case.....I hope someone, who will back you, was in the room when you gave notice.

One word, which is a typo on a forum, but in the real world, that one word makes a HUGE difference.

Congrats again!

murd0c 07-06-2014 08:42 AM

Damn typo, yes they walked me out the door right away so of course they owe me for that time and I know they will pay me for it so I'm not worried at all thankfully

Jonydakiller 07-06-2014 10:19 AM

I'm glad you came through at the end murd0c, but don't be surprised if you see something similar @ your new job, you just have to learn to find a way to tackle it when you see it instead of letting it slide because things will only going for worse.

I can almost guarantee this so called "bullying" or "joking around" exist in every office, and there is nothing you can do about it. I worked at an office before, and i been on both ends of the stick, getting laughed at or laughing at people due to their race, physical appearance etc.

You somehow have to manage to stay on the "top" of all things, if somebody start circulating an email or flyer about somebody at the office, join the conversation, jump onto the bandwagon and say something harsh but that can also falls under "joking around", at least people working around you will realize you can also attack instead of sitting there getting laugh at.

I have to admit, I enjoy making fun of people due to their race, physical appearance etc sometimes, and thats how i stay on the top. Like currently we have a coworker from Africa, we were sitting with bunch of people at starbucks and he chose a seat with the shade, so i just said, you don't need shade, he asked me why, and i simply told him because you are black and you won't get a sun burn! Some people can actually take this to HR for discrimination at work place and I will be in trouble, but if you have that some sort of mutual understanding with everyone at @ workplace, ppl say things about you they will just forget about it the next day, and why this crap exists, is because work is just too BORING and ppl is always trying to find something to entertain themselves, so next time join the bangwagon and start making fun of people! thats my advice! (within an acceptable limit )

dared3vil0 07-06-2014 11:54 AM

^ You're a tool.

Ronin 07-06-2014 02:05 PM

There's a difference between joking around and bullying. At my workplace, it's a total boys club where we totally talk shit to each other. It's often gross and sometimes pretty racist (since we're a very multicultural place...there's basically one or two of every racial group present) but it's all said in the spirit of...well, how guys interact in friendship. If someone wasn't cool with it, that would be fine and we wouldn't joke around with them like that.

What murdoc described is harassment, not simple jackassery shared amongst friends.

murd0c 07-06-2014 05:57 PM

I couldn't of said it better myself Ronin and no it won't happen at my new job since theres only 6 people including myself and not 60 like my other job. 27 total people in the whole company which is so nice.

quasi 07-07-2014 08:28 AM

It's always tough leaving somewhere even if it's not the best environment and starting over. As you know it's going to be a bit stressful for the first little bit as you prove to your bosses and co-workers that you can do the job but three months from now it will be business as usual and back into autopilot.

Best of luck at your new job.

I hope this is a joke, cause if not you sound like a messed up person.

Work is boring unless people make fun of each other? LOLWUT.

Practical jokes are one thing, for example I have a little program which forces someones computer CD-Tray to open and close on a random interval. This makes everyone laugh, and as long as you don't drive someone up the wall with it, they always laugh after you tell them as well.

But just busting on someone for their Race, culture, or physical appearance because you are bored is really fucked up man.

EDIT: Like seriously, just this sentence:

if you would have done that to me, i would have poured my coffee down your shirt. the only burning your gonna make fun of is the "black coffee" cooking your nipples.

fucken racist.

Ronin 07-07-2014 10:51 AM

That joke is acceptable if the black guy doesn't mind and usually my black friends wouldn't. Just like I told my Persian friend I was going to go watch the history of his people when I went to see the 300 sequel.

"Do you still worship Xerxes, the god king?"

Jonydakiller 07-07-2014 11:31 AM

You guys need to chill, we are assuming that you know the people that you are working with, not some random people you met on the first day. Like op, he knew the people working around him as well, my coworkers make fun of me being chinese as well.

I dont make fun of people because im bored at work, im saying in general why people do it at work it is because due to their lack of interests at their jobs. Hope yhis clears up a bit

Some of you need to get out of your moms basement and go see the world, making dumb assumptions without knowing what a working environment is like nowadays

No...just no.

You stated you like to exert dominance over others by making fun of their appearance and race. If you can't see how wrong that is, regardless of your relationship with that individual, just go kill yourself.

EDIT: And for the record, I understand where you are coming from. I have mentioned this on the forum before, I was called "car-bomb" within my company for A LONG time, and still get it once in awhile. I have no problem with the name, in fact I find it hilarious.

The reason I find what you are saying wrong is because the way you explain it is that this is how you elevate yourself above others, which is no longer humorous, its just degrading at that point.

So don't tell me shit about the workplace environment, and all that crap.

Jonydakiller 07-07-2014 12:49 PM

^ and u never make fun of people due to their race or physical appearance? Okkkk...

I mentioned those as examples, it is not the only 2 things we make fun of each other at work place, but it is quite common that these 2 come up quite often.

I was simply inputting my opinion on what op should do when he starts in a new environment. You cant expect people to just kinda go away if you just sit there and do nothing when they are making fun of you, because it will only get worse, turning joking around into bullying.

Please dont compare flipping burgers at macD or shaking bubble teas as a real working environment. I been to big corporate office like op did so i know exactly whats going on because it happened at my office as well, photochopping craps etc.

All in all, my advice is you are the best protection you can seek out there when it comes to bullying, how you approach is up to u, im offering how i approach it in a corporate world. Going HR is only when you are ready to quit your job

edit - i dont laugh at ppl to "elevate" myself over others, but sort of trying to mix in in a sense? Because when you and majority of people are living under the same roof, they will also protect you when things go out of hands. If you try to go complete clean hands in a corporate world, good luck, you will be on your own and gets bullying without a doubt, it is just how it is nowadays unfortunately

You do seriously have a problem with self elevation.

Even if I did work at mcdonalds or shaking bubble teas, does that mean I am any less entitled to not get bullied at my place of work?

I understand your approach, but that's definitely NOT how it has to be. If I don't feel like joking around about something, and trading shots like that with someone, I have EVERY right to open my mouth and say STOP.

OP has that same right, in fact everyone does. You come off as the type of person that would keep pushing the person after that until they explode.

SkinnyPupp 07-07-2014 04:39 PM

Jony if you are like this in real life and aren't just talking shit on the internet.. what a real sack of shit you must be

murd0c 07-07-2014 04:54 PM

Jony how old are you?

I hope this clears it up a bit. You're a kid. We're adults.

If you're fucking around on a real job and someone complains about it, the right thing to do is stop. If they understand it's a joke and they don't mind/joke back, then it's all good but obviously someone took it too far at murdoc's previous job.

It doesn't matter if you think he's being sensitive. If he is, then that's his right. He shouldn't have to deal with assholes at work that don't understand no means no. Assholes should, instead, stop being assholes.

Yes, it's a heck of a lot of fun when you can shit on people at work in jest but it's more important that people at work can peacefully co-exist with each other. If someone tells you to stop with the dickery, maybe it's time to stop with the dickery instead of calling them a pussy.

SoulCrusher 07-07-2014 05:36 PM

Jonydakiller you're what's wrong with society.

i don't know where you work, but it sounds like you need to get out of your work environment.

you CAN NOT generalize what happens in your work environment, is the same in ANY work environment.

whatever corporate/office environment you came from, it definitely sounds fucked up.

if everyone is on board with the same type of jokes then sure, its all fun and games to enjoy your break. if you seriously lack interest of your job, and resort to such jokes just to pass the time, you are definitely also in need of a new job.

and no matter what happens, when one person says stop, it definitely means stop. and murd0c has stepped up and did what was right and it still continued. every company is suppose to provide a safe and harassment free workplace.
