Acura TLX

So Acura posted on their official instagram and Facebook page today that the new TLX will be debuting in 2014, at the Detroit Auto Show.
I hope it's not going to be the disappointments like the RLX n ILX.

My life will be complete if they made a coupe version.

Can't wait to see what it looks like. Hopefully it's a bit more aggressive than the 4th gens. New advanced transmission also sounds interesting, maybe finally a double clutch system?

"This all-new Acura TLX is the perfect blend of style and muscle with its elegant, well-proportioned exterior that cloaks the true sport sedan chassis and powertrain beneath," said Mike Accavitti, senior vice president, American Honda Motor, Co., Inc. "The sporty characteristics that customers found appealing in the TSX are even more pronounced in this aggressive new TLX."

The all-new Acura TLX will offer luxury buyers a wider range of choices with two all-new, high-performance and highly fuel-efficient direct-injected engines, each mated to an all-new advanced transmission, along with available two-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive configurations. The TLX will also feature dynamic and emotional exterior styling wrapped around a mid-size luxury sports-sedan package that maintains the roomy cabin space of the current TL.

I have a good feeling about this one

supafamous 12-20-2013 05:17 AM

Considering the duds that the ILX and RLX are I'm not sure how one can get that excited about the TLX. I'm optimistic but Honda press releases love to use the words "dynamic" and "aggressive" all the time when describing their products.

Fingers crossed for something like the 3G TL-S but I'm expecting something that looks boring and drives like a nice Accord.

nabs 12-20-2013 06:13 AM

I'm excited for this announcement. I just really hope it's not a let down.

jaemc 12-20-2013 09:18 AM

I sincerely hope Acura will not let us down again. With the image as well as the pricing. The last few products has been somewhat of a let down.

nabs 12-20-2013 09:18 AM

Jaemc will get me employee family and friends pricing... right... buddy.. beer on me.

i doubt it.. double clutches are still pretty expensive. too baller for a TL for now.

more likely a 7 or 8 speed is what they mean by 'new advanced'.

so this is going to replace the TL and TSX? now sure how i feel about that, i guess it keeps their costs down because they only have to provide 2 engine choices for a very similar demographic (just one group has more money to buy the TL.. let's face it, you wouldn't buy a tsx if you could afford a tl).

however i do hope they keep the weight manageable.. it'll be bigger than the current TSX for sure though.

engines are probably gonna be a 4 cylinder making 200hp and a v6 making 300+. they did say they were gonna be all new though so that's exciting.
i wouldn't be too shocked if they came out with any sort of forced induction.. but definitely possible considering the trend is now back to going twin turbo to save gas and have smaller engine sizes.

StylinRed 12-20-2013 11:55 AM

I really like the current TL didn't think much of it before other than it looked alright then I drove one a few times and it's really impressive especially for its price

Timpo 12-20-2013 01:13 PM

TLX? why not TL? What does X mean?

All the current models will or already have "X" on the end, this way when the new NSX reveals...the model platforms will sorta sound the same...

I miss the 3.2CL-S v6 6spd...

Well the 2014 RLX Hybrid comes with a DCT so its not too far fetched.

Actually to think of it if the TLX's performance is anywhere near the RLX's 377HP then it could be a popular car. Just waiting on styling now :okay:

well the RLX base model is $50k and the TL base is $40k.
also, the premium cost of the hybrid powertrain option over the base model will be substantial. pricing for 2014 RLX hybrid is not out yet, but if we take a look at the price difference between an Infiniti M37 base model ($52k, roughly same as a RLX), and the Infiniti M Hybrid ($68k), you can see how much more the price increase it is from a base model car to hybrids.

maybe it won't be a $16k price premium for the RLX hybrid (which will jump it to $66k vs TL $40k), but you can be sure it won't be less than 8-10k which will still make it around $20k more expensive than a TL.

so i still think it's a little far fetched that a ~$40ishk TLX will have a DCT (just guessing at the price).

but we'll see if i'm right..

There might be a chance that they put the Accord's CVT in there...

If this is really going to be a "high performance" car, I hope they don't put the words "Earth Dreams" anywhere on the car. That is the stupidest name for an engine I've ever heard of. "EcoBoost" comes up as a close 2nd.

When I think of high performance, I don't want to think about the environment. I want to think about the thrill of driving that car fast and having lots of fun. Worrying about the environment does not encourage those emotions.

IMO, Honda and Ford really goofed by labelling their engines those names.

supafamous 12-21-2013 01:11 PM

If they put the 2L 280hp turbo together with the hybrid AWD drivetrain they might really have something special but I don't see it happening.

More likely we see a higher compression version of the K24W from the Accord as the base powertrain (figure 210hp) and the J35 Earth Dreams engine in a SH-AWD setup.

I just hope the get the styling right with this car. The last generation, on paper was great until you see images of it. It looked worse in person.

After the face-lift it's all right. But 09-11 Sh-awd had the quad exhausts. Idk why they got rid of them after the face-lift.
