i went to dale's in langley and it's the head gasket(s)
but they said it's a very slow leak and it's not coolant but oil (they had an impreza in the shop with both head gaskets leaking and it was so bad the entire underside of the engine and transmission was covered in oil ) and suggested maybe going to a heavier weight oil and see what happens?

You dont need to pull the motor to do a head gasket on a 2.5L. if the mechanic says you do, you need to find another mechanic.

docksteader said they would have to pull the engine. dales said no, so dales quoted me much less than the dealer because of fewer labor hours.

Not sure where you're located, but give Kon Auto on Venables and Clark Drive a shot as well.
Be forewarned - you may not be able to understand a word he says.

doing the math, kon's is closer, but dales estimate was less.
