Audi Next Gen TT Interior Reveal - Dashboard + Info Screen Integrated Into 1

Came across this article about Audi's next-gen TT interior reveal at CES, and it looks like the info-screen is integrated into the dashboard which looks pretty neat and useful.

What do you guys think?

Article:

Quote:

Audi has yet to show off the exterior of its next generation TT sports car, but the German auto manufacturers is taking the opportunity to showcase the vehicle’s interior at CES.

When it comes to the interior design, Audi has done away with what has become a growing trend — for better or worse — in automotive interior design: huge, central display screens. Many cars today come with large central displays that present infotainment options and vehicle navigation. In the case of the Tesla Model S, its center stack is dominated by a huge, 17” display.

Audi, on the other hand, has completely removed the central display unit and replaced it with a 12.3” display screen directly in front of the driver. Not only does it provide basic information like speed, RPM, and fuel levels like you would typically expect in “Classic” mode, but it can also present all entertainment options to the driver as well as an overlay for navigation in “Infotainment” mode.

Another ingenious touch are the air vents, which Audi says are shaped like jet engines. The actual controls for air conditioning are contained within the vents, while a small LCD on the center of each vent displays the current temperature.

Taken in total, Audi’s design decisions with the interior makes for an uncluttered look and allows the driver to focus more on driving. The company has definitely impressed us with the next generation TT’s interior, so we can’t wait to see how they deliver with the exterior.

Because Richmond wasn't bad enough already, we should definitely add more distraction and clutter on a dashboard.

That looks awesome! Can't wait to this technology trickle down to more economically-minded cars.

The navi dash cluster looks pretty cool... Definitely first in class when designing...
Only thing curious is would it be easily visible in size and clarity when driving?? I mean, ppl got use to driving and reading gps mounted on side or center console, and now its located right under your field of vision while driving... Just hope its large enough to see the details + words.

The first air vents photo made me lol in the beginning, I thought another vehicle with large vents planted right in front of you, like the MB CLA, but then the last photo made it clearer. Small lcd screens planted with the vents so its all in one. Looks better and feels better than just some plastic vents. So now when those lights up, it looks like mini autometers lol...

Seriously I am liking Audis designs... Exterior looks way better than before...wouldnt mind owning a s7 or rs5 lol...

I wouldn't want cold/warm air blowing on my fingers when i'm changing the climate controls. Just seems like it would be kind of annoying.

The single screen design makes the driver the only navigator in the car. The passenger, who used to be able to help with navigation, has just lost the ability to assist the driver. I know sometimes the steering wheel can actually be somewhat in the way when reading something from the cluster. Wouldn't this be even more evident with small bits of information and text obscured by a steering wheel? That could be more time spent taking your eyes off the road to read/re-read/focus on what's written on the screen.

Seems like a step backwards, IMO. It's a nice g-wiz technology, but not entirely functional.

i am assuming this is new tech for audi... i hope it dosen't go all buggy and freeze up like the early-gen MMI interface systems of past.

i wonder if someone will figure out how to hack that screen and rig up a playstation so that you can play gran turismo 6 while in the driver's seat?

i guess the next thing we will need is anti-virus for cars given all the technology and computers that go into a car these days.

Sometimes I want my passengers to work the radio controls. I guess this makes them SOL.

Actually richmond has one of the lowest accident rates in lower mainland. I feel very safe driving in richmond. I'd say driving in burnaby or coquitlam is far more dangerous with all the crazy drivers and their shit box civics & jacked up pickups.

It would be fine if HUD standard and all the key information was displayed via the heads up display.

I remember seeing the spy shots for the Audi TT interior and thought that was a step back and terrible.

But seeing this is a relief.

They debuted it in their quattro concept but yeah this is the first time they're using it in a production car

they're using Rightwares Kanzi UI

Enabling Creativity of User Experiences ? Rightware

looks interesting and at least Audi is trying new things but i like my cluster to just show my dials

Wow. When it comes to Audi's interior they definitely know what they're doing. It looks amazing in my opinion. I believe that will be a distraction for certain drivers.

As much as I think it looks absol-fuckin-lutely awesome, i would have to agree with this. I would hope that there are multiple dash display settings like making the tach and speedo bigger. I would certainly like to test drive one before I make judgements though.

what do you need to see. it's common sense.

everywhere else you see Car + Car accidents...that's 2 accidents.

In richmond you see car + building accidents...that's only 1 accident cause the building wasn't moving.

yeah from one of the stories i read there are at least two options one where it looks like a traditional audi cluster but the navi still shows except its tiny and the one which you see pictured

The interior itself looks great, but that display is a fucking terrible idea. The average driver will have a sensory overload.

this. most of the idiot drivers i see in richmond are more oblivious than anything. at least you'll barely ever see a c-lai weaving between cars, speeding or doing reckless shit in general. i feel way more unsafe driving around vancouver in my work truck daily, and that's in a truck..

with that being said, i'm pretty sure the repercussions of this info dash will be seen mostly in richmond. people gonna be too busy squinting downwards at their little map on the dash. at least before it was usually up near the windshield - at least your peripherals would still be able to see what was going on on the road
