Osoyoos is getting a track/resort!!

I'm quite excited about this especially if they let people come to track track on the cheap.

Strong early posts. I commend you on this.

Looks good. RS road trip anyone?

20psi 01-16-2014 03:42 PM

I'm absolutely dying for something like this and I really cannot wait. The drive just getting their is epic and that looks like a great plot of land. I very much want to get a handle on my snap oversteer in a legal, safe environment :)

lowside67 01-16-2014 03:47 PM

I'd love to see it, but don't get your hopes up, private tracks have been tried and even gotten to the point of raising money SEVERAL times in the past few years in BC and have never managed to get past that stage. The reality is it is a huge financial undertaking with highly speculative returns which makes it hard to finance, and motorsport is a tremendously unpopular sport with municipalities which makes it very difficult to obtain approval.

It'd be awesome to see this happen but until they break ground, it isn't even a hint of reality, and once they break ground it's still not a guarantee to see it finished.

Like autocross at several venues across the province, track days at Mission Raceway, Pacific Raceways, Oregon Raceway Park, The Ridge Motorsports Park, Portland International Racetrack, etc?

Lots of places to go now...

threezero 01-16-2014 03:50 PM

jaemc 01-16-2014 03:59 PM

Interesting! Looking forward to further updates

yray 01-16-2014 04:00 PM

aberdeen parking lot is best track

StylinRed 01-16-2014 04:21 PM

we heard about this awhile ago on here but like lowside said dont get your hopes up

Also do you really want to be supporting gangsters financially by going to this track? or does that fact not matter anymore when you get something out of it? ;)

Traum 01-16-2014 04:22 PM

Wasn't there a thread about this on RS before?

From what I remember, a lot (all?) of the land involved is sitting on some sort of first nations reserves, so potentially, there could be a lot less red tape getting in the way and holding things up.

Having said that, $$$ is still what matters at the end of the day, and race tracks getting built from scratch requires a LOT of it.

From the way it looks, I am not too optimistic about how average joes like us would be able to play there even if it gets built. It is shaping up to be an high society, country club type of place, and I sure as heck can't afford the $30k initiation fee. :okay:

30k first time initiation fee and 4k a year membership. I think I'll go buy another e36 m3 and go to every track day from here to oregon for that price. Its awesome, but realistically not for the average car enthusiast. (99% of RS) That being said if they ever have an open track day it would be a fun weekend trip/

Mr.Stubbz 01-16-2014 06:40 PM

brb, getting my mom's and dad's cc so i can pay for the initiation fees and membership

but seriously though, for that much money it better be like this

I do hope it happens, but I'll won't believe it until I see asphalt getting trucked in.

As far as initiation and annual membership fees are concerned, the $30k + $4k/year thing isn't really out of line for the type of thing they are shooting for. Places like Jericho Tennnis Club, Vancouver Lawn and Tennis Club are pretty much charging the same rate. As a matter of fact, given the amount of capital that is required to keep a race track up and running, I'd say the Osoyoos track membership fees are cheap.

SpuGen 01-17-2014 05:05 AM

And chances of them allowing drift events... 0

Old news.

saucywoman 01-17-2014 08:59 AM

I was wondering why this hadn't been posted before. 20psi don't worry about repost, now you know to do a quick search lol. Great early post getting a bunch of discussion happening

If the Osoyoos Indian Band has given land space and their ok then there won't be the red tape the city of Osoyoos would make them jump through. Indian Bands have their own governance and Area 51 will just have to conform with the rules set out by the band
