Mclaren 12C vs 650S

Hello everyone,

I am just curious to see what your opinions are on the styling of the 650S. Apparently they are unsure weather it will be a model in between the 12C and the P1 or if it will replace the 12C all together.

Although I do like the P1 styling, I think it looks extreme on the 650S. I also think that the 12C's styling has a very clean elegant look that will last the test of time, similar to the F1. As of now, I prefer the 12C styling to the 650S, if they keep the 12C in production, no worries.

Your thoughts?

I like the MP4-12C's aesthetics better.

So the MP4-12 got a front end conversion of P1.

This is what we call is a identity crisis, Ferrari didn't put Enzo front end on 360 Modena, or Laferrari front on 458.

WTF were they thinking.

they are okay, but it will still always be the mclaren F1 for me ...

this case is quite a bit different though. P1 is around a million dollars, whereas 650S or MP4 could be had for the quarter of that. McLaren ruined the exclusivity of the P1 by using its design on a lesser model.
I am sure P1 owners are not super happy with this move by McLaren.

Just like BMW and Mazda are doing nowadays.

I like it. I dont see anything wrong with putting a P1 looking face on a 12C level car. It builds brand similarities and the rest of the car is substantially different. No different than the Aventador and Huracan.

And there will be no confusion between a P1 and 650S.

^not from the back or side obviously. but I think even car experts will have problem identifying the car approaching from front.

Are you kidding me? If an expert confuses a p1, they are no expert. I don't have a problem with the 650, just don't drop the 12c. It has a mature look to it.

yeah I think this is horrible idea.

instead of making MP4-12C look like a poor man's P1, they should have kept it as a different car.

Just like GT-R and Silvia are different, Silvia isn't exactly a poor man's GT-R, Same with Supra and Celica, 3000GT and Evo, RX-7 and Miata, etc.

No, I'm not kidding you. Imagine one approaching at higher speed, it would be definitely harder to make out the details between P1 and 650, as opposed to P1 and mp4.

wait, why are they calling it 650S? Isn't it MP4-12C?

P1 is a million bucks, 650 is not.

No, I'm not buying one. I heard this from a guy putting down a P1 order on another forum (not local). He said many people are turned off.
