fun cars for under $7000

list them off!

my only requirements are that its manual, rear wheel drive and not a 4cylinder. dont want a miata because im a big guy and will not be happy being crammed into such a tiny car.

edit: forgot to add that it cant be right hand drive. i'm just not down with it..

BMW E36 coupe can be had in that price range. All other suggestions I have are 4 bangers.

Skyline != left hand drive.

dared3vil0 03-27-2014 11:19 AM

Depends what your definition of fun is. Straight line fast? corner carver? looks cool?

sonick 03-27-2014 11:27 AM

Porsche 944 + monies for maintenance

Renthal 03-27-2014 11:27 AM

I agree with all the above posts..

You are not getting anything less than a DESTROYED E46 with no money left for mods for that kind of price. It would buy a decent 325IS/328IS and a few bucks for wheels and suspension though.

KingKaze 03-27-2014 11:33 AM

I've seen and heard of people getting 240's for cheap and making them look super sick for under 7000.

Yeah, kinda cheated by posting a modded e46. But you should be able to get an early 323 or 325 that isn't "destroyed" for < $7k.
eg. http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/rd...376236530.html

knight604 03-27-2014 11:47 AM

In this range better off jdm..

Yeah, I just dont equate

with

hahaha. All these cars in this thread are so deceptive though, they all have $7k in paint, wheels, and suspension - forget about the price of the actual car plus maintaining it (FC RX7, are you crazy?!?)

straight line fast is only fun for a little while, then it gets boring. i want something thats actually fun to rip around in and looks cool. something i can also rip on highways with for semi-long cruises.

i'm always on cl looking for fox bodies. i love the car, but theyre pretty much useless in stock form. have to dump at least 15k into them before theyre actually any kind of real fun.

What's wrong with a 4 cylinder? If it's lacking in power, there are plenty of factory turbo'd 4 cylinders. You're really killing your choices by excluding them...

Gucci Mane 03-27-2014 12:07 PM

ok maybe i'll consider a turbo 4. but it cant be front wheel drive...

E36 with a V8 swap, a touch more than 7k(Mine was just under 10k all in)

Never have I owned a car that puts more smiles on my face, and they can be made to look pretty dang nice, pretty timeless design

underscore 03-27-2014 12:38 PM

Hop on CL or Kijiji, search for cars that are <$6k (you want to leave room for maintenance, etc) and see what you find that interested you. Honestly if you just want something fun for cruises and DDing then which wheels are the drive wheels doesn't really matter.

Do you want something that's mostly stock and turn key, or do you want something older that you can build for under $7k total? Are you okay with a car that can be maintenance intensive, or do you need at least average reliability due to your long term budget/housing & DIY situation? Do you want a car with widespread aftermarket support, or are you okay with doing some hunting?

320icar 03-27-2014 12:40 PM

How about a great condition e30? For 7k you should be able to get a mature-owned clean example with a few quality mods. No xxr's or cherry bombs
