IMO is more valuable in California / Ontario where Supercharging costs triple.

S85 battery packs are deeply problematic and will require replacement, so gotta make sure ur supercharging savings exceed $10k.

That wagon was posted earlier when it was priced at $10.9K. The price has been slowly ticking down. Too bad I have my winter car for this year already sorted out, that would be pretty tempting. Good that the OPG is done, that's a big job on the AWD E9x platform.

I think it's a good buy at $9.9K considering manual/wagon/rare color, considering the steady price drops, there may still be some room for negotiation.

Now i wondering how good these buys are when they've been listed for weeks.

We here on RS are an exception to the rule of "Yeah I don't wanna shift my own shit in Vancouver traffic" // "My wife can't drive stick so :heckno:"

Unicorn wagon. Saw the listing at 12pm. Marked sold at 1pm and over asking.

JDMDreams 09-16-2024 09:20 PM

Just get one from Japan for half the cost, the auto box ruins it anyways.

trollface 09-17-2024 06:33 AM

They're ugly imo

whitev70r 09-17-2024 07:02 AM

^ I'd have to agree ... the sedan, not bad, cult classic but the wagon ... many better options out there.

I sold mine 2 weeks ago, they’re super nice looking with a bit of low and wheels, lots of cool little features especially on the Canadian ones.

I don’t know what better option you’d have for $12k on an car that can do almost everything except maybe drive in the snow well and won’t require any maintenance beyond a timing belt for the next 200k kms

whitev70r 09-19-2024 08:06 AM

Well kept winter vehicle, 3 pedal, awd, tastefully modded (lowered).
2008 Audi A4 Avant, Quattro, 6 spd, one owner, 2nd set of winters on 18", 185K kms, $11K obo

I really don't get the appeal of 6 Speed commuter wagons that aren't the M/S models

They aren't particular fun to drive.

AstulzerRZD 09-19-2024 11:08 AM

tbh I think it's a lot of internet fanboing - from product planning perspective, domestic and german fanbois are more divorced from reality

Pickup guys: "gimme my V8 / diesel are the only real truck"
it's 25% of F150 sales volume, limited down low torque
& holy shit diesel emissions maintenance $$

anti-pickup guys: "they're big, scary, gas guzzly waste of space"
bro V8 F150 gets the same economy as my V6 Accord
also their friends might all be short lol

anti Dodge Charger/Durango guys: "trashy low credit score"
they're not wrong but they're also the best road trip sedan under 40k

Wagon guys: "gimme a wagon, no SUVs"
ppl buying utility vehicles on the west coast are going to hit a trail and want ground clearance

Toyota guys: I wish Toyota still made V6 Camry
that was like 5% of sales volume and makes too much power to be usable
Hybrid AWD is way more driveable

Anti-tesla guys: the interior is horrible and the screen sucks
Have they touched the materials in the competition?
Have they tried to charge in the competition?
Ride quality complaints are valid and the CyberTruck, that one seems legitimately bad

My used car ran 200k miles guys:
Bro have u looked at crash safety? low key my life is worth more than ur 98 corolla
especially now that leases are $200/mo for a cheap EV

Anti-german SUV guys:
Bro west coast dads are scaling mountain ranges to take their family on a trip
12 hour drive across the rockies or down the coast of california?
no way i'm doing that in a RX / grand highlander / CX9

B58 B58 B58 guys:
Low key it sounds like the lexus V6 from inside the car until you put an intake and exhaust on it.
They must also not like their warranty very much

EvoFire 09-19-2024 11:46 AM

Stop exposing us!

But for real, the diesel supremacy thing is dumb. I keep arguing with a friend that he doesn't need a 2500 diesel, the gas model is much cheaper to run. At least he actually uses his truck for work and tows his race cars around opposed to some ppl who just builds a brodozer to go to the mall with.

I, like most ppl in the 2000's, hated the move to German SUVs and was a lover of wagons, I joined in at making fun of the whole BMW SAV thing. I am now on a second BMW SUV. The Germans still have most makes beat on comfort. Yes the X5 has a little too much tire slap/impact noise. The body motions are not controlled enough in comfort and a little too stiff in sport, but in the same size class I can't think of anything that would beat it. And once you have kids, the current unibody SUVs have the wagons beat in utility.

But Teslas still do suck. I concede that they have charging and the whole EV drivetrain thing down pat, but I'm not in the market for an EV and there's no case outside of the EVness of it all that makes a Tesla a better car.

AstulzerRZD 09-19-2024 11:59 AM

On Teslas.... I think they're becoming so cheap that they're really the best option for anyone looking for a commuter. At like 41k after incentive with great financing rates in Canada, a lot of people would stomach the behaviour change for $2-300 a month saving.

I think the FSD is total ass tho (having worked in self driving as well).
MB Drive Pilot is is the one i'm watching - hands and eyes free means I can actually read a book or watch a movie.
Just need them to expand out of California and remove some restrictions (no night time, must have car in front)

Anti screen bros: do they not want like 3 hours of their life in traffic back?
Once MB expands drive pilot to outside of CA, they'll gonna wish their car had a keyboard too lmao.

Yeah low key the ML was terrible, Audi had nothing till the Q7, and the X3/5 didn't drive that great (stiff, body-rolly,etc)

Holy, facts.

The worst one are the guys constantly complain on FB/IG/Reddit about OEM's not creating new sports car like a new Supra/400Z/S2000/MR2.

OEM releases a sports car for $60-75k out the door price tag. Then this crowd starts complaining about the low HP + Price when their max budget was a 200,000 mile, auto 350z / 335i :lawl:

I was a hater of sports SUVs until a couple of months ago. I was invited to VIMC with my M2 for a track day with the other BMW wankers. One guy (former superbike racer) had an X5M and holy shit. They cleared the other groups off the track so we could go full speed and not worry about the first timers. I'm an average driver at best, but I could not shake that thing.

Ok, he had to stop due to over heating his brakes, but damn. Just the sound of that V8 and the massive tires screaming behind me was amazing.

Might have to find a secondhand West Van driven one some day (with a mega warranty).

LOL yeah like we didn't spend years building a business case / fighting for a budget / market testing a new car.

That said, Japanese automakers flush with late 80s cash or smart management by Ghosn got them pretty far.

Neither is true today but I don't expect people to have studied macroecon to understand state of the car market.

They are a bit of a one lap wonder though, maybe three...... Not much outside of the M2/3/4 can handle a full session on track without overheating or breaking something. BMWs do have the sport driving thing in their hands unless you move into a P car.

And it doesn't really matter what Porsche says about their new 992.2 GTS, I don't buy it that the car can handle more than two sessions without being completely discharged.

Dbone 09-19-2024 01:50 PM

Oh yeah. He did a solid 10 minutes out there. I bet some better pads and brake fluid and he would be fine for even more but it's not going to go all day.

JDMDreams 09-19-2024 02:26 PM

Yes just wait till the plastic pipes burst and it bore scores after 5 years, valve stem seals?
