This is REALLY loaded

- Performance Package WITH LSD (which was standalone on some cars)
- Driver Assist Package
- Premium Pack w/ active bolsters and ventilated seats, heated rear seats
- Optional wheels

The only thing it doesn't have is the carbon fibre package.
The M157 engine is pretty problematic tho:

- timing chains
- bore scoring
- wiring harness fills with oil
- cam adjuster/whatever
- ECU failure

Not an uncommon problem with some cars, oil leaks out of rear main seal or something and gets wicked up by harness wrap... I think the Nissan Rogue has that issue on certain years.

M157 engines wick engine oil through the camshaft adjusters magnet (and sometimes even the camshaft position sensors) and into the wiring harness. Most commonly, owners only discover that oil has run the length of the harness and into the engine computer via a host of fault codes for auxiliary sensors (such as oxygen sensors and ignition coils) suddenly appearing. The bill is consistently quoted somewhere between $10,000 and $15,000, and while the issue had initially seemed most prominent on M278/M157 cars, nearly every semi-modern, direct-injected Mercedes on the market is using these same leak-prone camshaft adjuster magnets and cam position sensors.
Quote:
FCP Euro: We recommend the replacement of the Camshaft Adjuster Magnets (to stop the leaking at its source) as well as the addition of the Sacrificial Pigtails, to keep the wiring harness protected in the future. We’ve bundled kits for these as well, which include an electronics-safe solvent to blast the wiring harness plugs and get the residual oil out. There are kits for single-cylinder banks and for double cylinder banks in this instance as well. It would also be wise to add these pigtails to the Camshaft Position Sensors even though they are clean, in case they begin to leak in the future. We recommend you replace them all yearly as a maintenance item.

Did Porsche co-develop this with Mercedes?

My god, the W203 had that issue with the Cam Adjustment Magnet wiring harness, and that was a 2005!

2008 Miata with 174,000km for $15,750. Comes with a set of RFP1s and Ohlins (and other things). Shame about that driver side seat and a bit more scuffed up that I would expect but that seems like a solid price for something like that.

Would rather soft top, and probably cheaper too. The rollbar thing with the hard top is a real challenge if you want to take it to the track.

I bought my absolutely mint special edition 2008 hardtop with 60,000kms on it for $16,000 last summer just for reference. I recognized the RPF1's but... that mileage and the damage?

That said, I got notified of 3 '08 special editions for sale in the last month and the cheapest one was $19k all the way up past mid-20's for some 15k km examples... did NC's suddenly get a big bump?

It still has the original engine, that's a maintenance item on those.

Recommended Re and Re every 40k.

^ I thought it was just rod bearings that were the weak point on those.

For E60 M5, manual swap isn't too bad.
$1.4k for kit + bring your own E92 trans.
https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/bmw...3648kt#fitment

ZF8 swaps are also super popular because they're plug and play for ZF6 car:
E-series BMW, L322, VR6/V8 Audi and Porsche, Granturismo/Quattroporte, DB9/DBS
https://www.turbolamik.us/?srsltid=A...X41br27sBBlgMb

There's also standalone TCU for DCT or PDK that you can pair to Motec/Haltec/MaxxECU, etc.
https://hpr-tuning.com/products/htg-...rRjG1ZAFtEwJlM
https://www.domi-works.com

With that standalone TCU and an adapter plate, you can swap a ZF8 or 7DCT into any manual trans car:
MB OM606 Diesels, 1/2JZ, BMW M30, LS, K20, 13/20B, 4G63, RB26, SR20, VQ, etc etc

https://www.domi-works.com/collections/8hp-vehicle-kits
They even sell the crossmember for most Toyotas.

Not really cheap, a used trans is at least $3000 USD not the rupees we have. So like you're at least $5000 USD in parts if you include tax and tariffs. That's like $7000 assuming your trans is good, and you got labour, and since it's a modern car you gotta reprogram shit. Is there even anyone locally and to do that. So I assume it will be another $3000?

So you're 10k in a car worth $20000. Then you got other BMW problems.

I figure if you get an E60 M5, you're in it for 30k either way.
A hydraulic repair for SMG is also ~7k give or take.

Reprogramming for the 6MT is not too bad.
TCUs and wiring for ZF8/PDK/DCT is another 3-5k.

I agree you have other BMW problems, but that V10 is hard to match if it's what you are looking for. If you are going to invest in a car like that, I'd throw a 7DCT in. The BMW 7DCT is quite good.
