@noclue - congrats! I'm not big on the iX exterior design, but they're really nice cars to be in. Quote:

Fit and finish is poor.
1) My tail gate is crooked, I had it looked at by a body shop and they said it's like that from factory.
2) My driver door doesn't sit flush
3) I see it on A LOT of X5s on the road, the gas cover is not even front to back
4) Again I see it on a lot of X5s on the road. The doors are all wavy from factory. Absolutely nothing you can do about it.
5) Little things inside like leather stitching that's not closed off properly, scuff marks on leather that no one should have touched, wrinkles where it should be smooth, and dimples from what I'm guessing is the backing foam is not smooth.
6) Passenger mirror may not have been put together properly, and it cracked the internals after a few years of use - this was recently covered under warranty
There's other things like the engine bay edge seal was sticking up, though I'm not sure if that's fit and finish or someone had taken it off prior and just not reinstalled it properly.
This also doesn't cover the other problems I've had with the car which isn't fit and finish but were otherwise covered under warranty.
Keep in mind nothing MAJOR has broken other than the sunroof module that died. Everything has been mainly cosmetic or minor.
I had similar odd fit and finish issues with my X3, and a friend's X4M had a lot of leather issues as well.
Not to jinx it, but out of all my BMWs, only the M3 has been perfect and it's the only one that was built in Germany. I believe the F80 M3 was also built in Dingolfing whereas all the other 3/4 series cars were built in Munich.

I have heard that Mex built cars are actually better than US built cars. I've had the pleasure of riding in a Chattanooga built Atlas, and that also had atrocious build quality.
I don't have a lot of hopes for the Alabama built Mercs either. Most of the German cars that are built in US all suffer.

Man I have to take a closer look at mine later. But I didn’t notice any of the stuff you mentioned when I did my post winter detail.

Dark colors are always gonna be a pain in the ass.
Have you ever thought about wrapping it? I’m quite pleased with my ratrolla wrap, it’s been 3 years and the damn thing hasn’t left me down and protected it from quite a few rock chips. Although it’s expensive, it think its worth it.
At this rate, I expect it to last another 3 years before I take it off and maybe go back to regular ppf or just leave it red (embracing the full chinamenz)

That British racing green is pretty sweet! Even that ruby star thingy is fine, it’s got enough performance chops to make it feasible for such a bright color.

Those are all factory paints, you won't get the same depth of colour from a wrap.
What colour are you right now? Black Sapphire or Carbon Black? Carbon Black is pretty nice and it looks great in the sun. It's got depth from the blue pearl you'll never get from a wrap.

Yeah but you also get protection. Depth is all fine and dandy but 99% of the time the paint looks like shit due to inept care and maintenance. It’ll never look as deep or clear as those photos. Nobody here can do what loong does and spend 2-3h detailing every week.
Better off with a wrap that you can enjoy, and get protection at the same time.

Black is a bitch to keep clean, so much bee poop, pollen dust and dirt stain lately with the on and off rain.

I hear wraps are only food for about 5 years before they have to be replaced. Does no one plastidip anymore?

Plasti dip is good for the $150 worth of materials it cost. It's very hard to get a good finish with spray cans. Unless you really do it often and is willing to invest in the sprayer.

Spending $150 to make my car worse isn't my idea of a good investment. You could pay me 5k to plastidip my car and I still wouldn't do it.

The only car I’d wanna plastidip is a beater XRS Corolla or at VW beetle. The worse looking the better. It needs to be all splotchy and uneven to really emphasize I did my own paint job for 150 dollars.
Then straight to the Porsche meat.
