It is. I think all they need to do is go build a mk8.5 online and look at the payments. Not even close.

Year old Taycan 4S with 15,000km for $112k. A 2025 version with roughly the same specs is $186k.

^ If Tayca (or Panamera), you really need the Turismo version ... not the sedan.
Maybe something like this one 2018, phev, 18K kms, $90K https://finder.porsche.com/ca/en-CA/...rder=price_asc

90k at 7 years old is gonna be a problem. Gonna cost you 20k in maintenance and 50k in depreciation to own that thing for 5 years.

If they weren’t worried about that amount of money they’d buy it new.

My favorite topic, hating Porsche
Dafuq is this? Take out the Porsche badge on the steering wheel and replace it with VW and it's the new touraeg. No unique porsche design, just all screens! They even got rid of the simulated 5 dials that's traditionally Porsche.

How worried would ya be to not have a 8 year battery warranty buying a 2018 model.
To my understanding, battery life is heavily dependent on age not KM usage

^^ unless you're buying a leaf, Korean or, European, I don't think battery really is an issue, just look at all the Toyota hybrids, and Tesla has proven that their batteries are decent even the earlier 2017 ish models. Those 2012 model s are still around and I think they still get over 200 km maybe less if you don't have a heat pump model.

But at the same time I personally felt really ripped off by the Q5 because you know there was a boundary in which they built the car, it cannot exceed this particular level of quality and it shows, they did not maximize the money's worth instead having to artificially cap it. To my understanding, battery life is heavily dependent on age not KM usage | A 2018 model, even with a 8yr 160k battery warranty would likely have it's warranty expire. Keep in mind most manufacturers start selling MY2018 already by Sept 2017. If it's an early MY2018 build the warranty would have expired by now, and even the later ones would expire within the year. If the vehicle doesn't meet the threshold for battery replacement you likely won't within the warranty period.
Age plays a part, and so does how it gets used. The software recommendations of not charging the battery fully if you don't have it has science behind it.

To my understanding, battery life is heavily dependent on age not KM usage | The Porsche hybrid batteries guaranteed fail.
Not KM dependent, but the battery management/chemistry is just primitive and they break.
Any large motor RWD or 85kWh pack from early Model S and X also fail for same reason.
1st gen Taycan batteries also failing but they're swapping them out with gen 2 batteries.

Low key they don't need to make the Porsche nice - if you want something that isn't a run of the mill X5/GLE, a Range Rover is too unreliable, G wagon is too expensive.
So... you buy a Porsche or if you're smart, buy a heavily depreciated Aston DBX with the AMG 4.0.

1st gen Taycan batteries also failing but they're swapping them out with gen 2 batteries. | I've heard the same about Porsche batteries, but only for the previous gen Cayenne, so your story checks out. Buy something pre 2018 and you are guaranteed to need a new battery. And IIRC it bricks the car, you cannot drive it with a dead hybrid battery.

I'm paying more for less functionality in the Cayenne. No wonder the X5 sells so well.
