I'm starting to hate this "Craigslist Good Buys". But I can't help to check it daily, so many wants here.

flagella 04-04-2017 05:09 AM

I just remember this very long detailed review years back on s2ki forum from a guy who moved on from s2k. He bought Boxster S, loved it. Then bought Z4M, hated it and got back into Boxster S again. Can't remember why exactly but it had some good points.

S2k is just a dedicated track car. For city driving, it can get somewhat tiring due to lack of power. If I could afford a car just as a weekend warrior to take it for spirited driving or tracking, it's hard to beat s2k. Just stay above 6k rpm and it's truly a joy to drive. I haven't driven a single car that shifts as smoothly as s2k does.

But the fact that it has a big front mount on the stock fuel system and stock turbo makes me leery. The vf39 is just too small to fill a cavernous fmic, and the car is probably not a lot of fun to drive.

To make it right you're going to need to drop a grand on the fuel system including proper rails, and put a proper turbo on the car. Even a TD06 will run you a grand. Subarus are not easy to build if you want a reliable 300whp.

Are the 04-07s more desirable/fetch more than the 08-10? Seems like they are going for the same price.

I feel like that gsr was the one that had a damaged front and now has the regamasters removed. I highly doubt they did anything to repair the front clip

Edit: I'm 99.5% sure it's the same one

I'm curious as well..How does the S2000's drive compare to the 1M coupe, or any 911? Other than the 500-600lbs difference of course.

smoothie. 04-05-2017 12:56 PM

Having worked at BMW, I like the Z4Ms. I really liked them when they hit bottom 30k.

You can feel the power difference for sure, but I felt the weight difference more.

Never driven a 1M Coup, but had a Z4 M coupe for a while. The bmw blows the honda out of the water in the power category obviously, 330 vs 250 or so, but I could really feel the weight of the car when cornering hard. S2000 is much more balanced when I took it out, even stock it felt amazing. The bmw has some bodyroll but not so bad that you feel like youre wobbling. The bmw also has torque throughout the powerband which is where it really has an advantage, as we all know s2000 is best kept in the higher ranges which is a little troublesome in the city (The soccer mom in the odyessy next to you will smoke you off the line). Shifting in the bmw felt kind of clunky and weak, the transmission in the s2000 felt amazing (a work of art). Clutch is much stiffer in the bmw and takes some getting use to, honda was very forgiving as it had alot of room to play (pros or cons depending on your preference).

Overall I would say depending on your lifestyle, both are amazing cars, both are rare. What I mean by lifestyle would be if you could afford to have 2 cars and have the space for it, I would choose a professional or boring daily driver (3series, accord or whatever) and have the s2000 as the weekend warrior. But if you could only choose 1, it would be the Z4 M. The Z4 M is like the more "mature" s2000, it kind of portrays a bachelor lifestyle, a little more refined and premium, but still can have fun and look sophisticated for a night out or a sunday morning run through sea to sky. An s2000 is like when you're out go-karting in your 30s with friends, and you dont care about anything but having fun
