talked him down to 14k. what do you guys think?

If you're planning to spend about $14K, wouldn't this be a better option?

white one is good better buy.

68style 01-20-2018 09:09 AM

None of those BMW's are a good buy, every single person I've ever known that's owned a 335 has spent $10k a year or more in maintenance out of warranty... such pieces of shit.

snowfarmer 01-20-2018 09:14 AM

can confirm, it wasn't $10K a year but it was more than any other car I've owned.

What do you replace that adds to $10k in like 2-3 years?

HonestTea 01-20-2018 11:46 AM

Engine and turbos lol

suzuka84 01-20-2018 11:51 AM

335s look like a good deal as they are now approaching affordable.

you have to remember these were expensive cars when new. oil change every 5k to keep the engine and turbos healthy. if the car has been modded, you need to be even more meticulous.

at 90k, you have a big maintenance job due at 100k (valve cover, tranny flush, rear differential flush and look at turbo/engine health) and with all beemers you can expect electrical issues.

the water pump is another big thing that you will need to address and it's $2k.

the water pump is not 2k.. But I agree with everything else. From what it read and priced out, if you do it yourself it's about 3k for the water pump, thermostat, and hpfp.

Just last week my buddy has a 2012 and he had a minor weeping from the main seal... took it into BMW and they basically replaced every major gasket on the engine to the tune of $4,200... AND the infamous fuel pump replacement at the same time. Lucky for him he has an extended warranty transferred from the previous elderly gentleman owner (with every record from day 1 religiously changing the oil every 3,000kms with synthetic), but what the fuck is a 6 year old softly driven car with 60,000kms on it doing with its engine having to come apart??? Ridiculous.

Nice driving car, great power, but man it's the automotive equivalent of russian roulette.

N54 as how I tell my customer : without warranty it’s a hand grenade without a pin.

The 325is only ran from 1987-1990

It's an IS. Nov 90 production date.

Only slightly more special than a 325i :)

vitaminG 01-20-2018 03:06 PM

at least if the turbos go on an n54 you can get aftermarket and make big power. is there not an solution to the HPFP yet? nothing in the aftermarket?

German engineering - making a car the best it can be, but only briefly.

Gerbs 01-20-2018 08:43 PM

Are the E92 M3's way more reliable than the 335i?

Short answer is yes

tofu1413 01-20-2018 09:26 PM

besides throttle body actuators and the exaggerated rod bearing problem... they aint too bad.

seen some slow leaks on DCT trans pan and rear diffs.

are n55's any better?

StanleyR 01-21-2018 07:55 AM

Here's a Scotty Kilmer vid where he explains why plastic engine parts suck.
I tend to agree.

Since these cars require so much money to repair and service, they are built to be recycled after roughly 10-15 years of daily use.

water pump, turbo charger, occasional coil pack stuff, random oil leaks

but still beats owning the N54 (the 54 is more responsive though)

don't forget valve spring failure, idle control valve, coil packs, diff whine, thermostat stuck, random leaks

Same thing applies for the x6?

yes.

N62 4.8L and N63 twin turbo 4.4L... could probably write an essay of their issues.

Man I think that statement is more or less applicable to all modern BMWs. Built in obsolescences so that you can continue to buy newer and better model every 4 years.

It makes good business sense.
