Who'da thought that someone could take one of the most reliable V6 engines on the market and build a car that is so unreliable. If anyone can do it, it's the British I suppose...

It's interesting to hear that the Evora is such a pos because I have had multiple friends with Elises, and other than some iffy built quality issues, their cars have been very reliable. In fact, at least 2 of them run their cars at motorsports events, so the cars definitely get a work out.

Early versions were quite problematic, while elises and exiges were fine. Lots of stupid mistakes as leaking seals and dashboard cracking. Eventually, was fixed, but yeah, avoid early versions.

One thing i read, it is relatively cheap to service, toyota at the end of the day. But exotic is exoticand when exotic parts are breaking... well still chipper then Mercedes or BMW M

I just wanted to point out that we are currently on page 997.

Since there really isn't any good 997 buys on CL at the moment, in lieu of posting nothing I decided to leave this picture of an idiot standing behind a 997.

I tried to post a good 996 buy on the last page too market is pretty garb right now. There's been a couple of decent Cayman's that sold quick though.

"best buy" right now is prob a low 50k 996 turbo.

I want to liquidate and get back into the Porsche world, but nothing is really motivating me to do so right now.

I am looking at 996 turbo. A friend has a 2001 with nice suspension and power mods. 65,000kms. I'd like to buy it in the near future.

There is a silver one on autotrader (Langley) $58,500 70kms silver. Great bang for the buck. Good buy but not a steal. If you don't mind a cab you can get a manual Turbo in the low 50s.

02 SC430 217kms, $15,900

I have watched sc430 prices for years and they have been ever so slow to depreciate. Seems like a fair price.

No idea what the condition is like but there is a 996 turbo 6spd low 50s: https://vancouver.craigslist.org/van...824291210.html

Worst colour combo in the history of cars, yet I own a car with the same combo, and I lust after that 996. Cruel world.

Not to be cruel... my friend has a yellow/black 996TT for sale. Coolant pipes welded, new PSS 10 + rubber. Cosmetically / mechanically mint. NOT a bargain. PM if you're interested.

Sadly, he stands in front of many nice vehicles. The fact that he was able to buy himself a Ford GT (2005) using money he made off being a full time doofus shows me just how unfair the world is...

Lets use this blue one for example. Given 50k to buy a sports car from around 2010, would anyone really put the an evora on their short list?

Looking at a new 2018 evora 410. It's a 160k car. Its pretty much the same car as a old evora supercharged. Same materials, same build quality issues, same engine and drivetrain. 2019 corvette zr1 starts at 155, 2019 911 gt3 starts at 160k. Even a gt3 with no options is more equipped than an evora fully loaded.

The Elise is another can of worms. The engine and transmission doesn't usually fail. But when it does fail, good luck fixing it the toyota way. There is no space to do anything. Everything else falls apart. like the evora, it runs a british wiring harness and british ecu. Things like abs, airbags, switches, are all sourced from other random manufacturers. Example, fuel pump is from a specific year buick regal.

i assume it has a smaller battery to save weight so not being able to start an evora after sitting there for a week is very fair

i would be too nervous to drive an elise on the street...they do quite poorly in impacts

Spoiler!

and if someone backs into you = 15k to replace the clam

^^ are the A3s any good? Are they pretty much a nicer gti golf? I thought the autos were dsg and I'm not sure if they fall apart by this age and crazy expensive to maintain?

Yes, basically Golf GTI 2.0T engine but with the added bonus of AWD. This is the 09 which has the TFI engine which is better than the FSI. DSG must be maintained and serviced. Frankly, I like the GTI body better but you can't get GTI with AWD ... well, you can but it's called Golf R but then it is $$$$

Would be nice if there were no mech issues but I figure even if you have to put $1K into this, it would still be a good deal. Once it is at stage 0, chip it and you're in the 230 hp territory. Pretty all around fun daily and with a set of snows ... get you to Whistler in the winter, to the Interior, or through the snow days here np.

lol the tsi engines are not any more better than the fsi's. They all fail, burn oil, timing issues, aka pieces of shits. Only good thing about the ccta tsi is that the used replacement engine options are wide since the engine is shared in many run of the mill cars like tiguans, passats from 09 all the way to 16. Fsi bpy engines were only produced from 06-08 in small variations so its harder to find a used replacement.

I concur, terribly overrated POS's.
The Quattro system just makes the car more complex/troublesome.
