She doesn't deserve to die, but when she is obviously engaging in risky behaviour and making "stupid mistakes" constantly as evidenced by past behaviour, we can call it lucky that she only killed herself and not that 73year old driver in the other car or any other poor sod that happens to be sharing the road w/ her.

Editor’s note: This article has been updated to reflect Sanford was posting pictures of herself while driving in the days before the crash, but not on the day of the crash, as clarified by High Point Police Lieutenant$Barry Roberts.
Doesn't make it much better, but at least she didn't die right after taking a selfie...

Cars are getting easier to drive every year. Couple this with phone technology going from T9 to QWERTY and it's not hard to see why people don't see texting while driving as risky.

Personally, I drive a manual which makes it nearly impossible to text and drive. No power steering also means both hands on the wheel. No cup holders so I can't even drink while driving. Maybe if everyone drove cars like mine....

rip but my god -_-

cant stand texters/cellphone users

lately it seems to have lessened at least when im out on the road

I've always imagined what it would be like if people; especially new drivers, were forced to drive a manual car because you can't do anything else behind the wheel plus you get the experience to drive a manual car if needed later on in life. With automatics, it's just gas and go which leaves so much leeway for your hands to play around with things in your car.

I am making fun of the stupid cops who sit at intersections and ticket hundreds of people glancing at their phone at a red light when they should be ticketing drivers who are actually driving and texting, or in this case taking selfies.

Sorry but my car is not going to spontaneously explode because I am texting while stopped at a red light. The worst that can happen is if your too retarded to multi task you might hold someone up for a second cause you didn't see the light change and that person gives you a honk and maybe gives you the finger. No harm done.

If anything police are making the problem worse because people will stop checking their phones at red lights and they will do it while driving because there is no way for a cop to catch them.

No your not going to blow up but your inconsiderate actions are holding up the five cars beind you for an "lol"

It adds up when you consider that cell phone plans were getting affordable in the mid 90's, for people in their late teens/early 20's. So those people grew up talking on their phones, without consequence, for quite a few years. Now that they're getting up there in age, it's hard to break the habit and on top of that, cell phones are a much bigger distraction than just making a call.

Conversely, kids that are just starting to drive have grown up, well aware of the dangers and consequences of cell use while driving and hopefully, won't make the same mistakes.

you can say the same thing about using the gps/infotainment system at a redlight

or back in the old days...when people whip out a map during a redlight

ticketing red light texters is a waste of law enforcement resources

I'd like to think people will learn from this, but nobody thinks that it'll happen to them. I wonder how many more of these stories we'll have to see. I also don't like this quote from the article: “And I’m sure there are millions of people in this world that will pick up their cell phone and make a text message, make a phone call, take a phone call or even check an email while driving. And just because it hasn't happened to them yet, they should really have some consideration for the family.” .... NO. This isn't cancer, it can't just "happen to anyone". It's preventable. It's illegal. I'm sorry the family has to go through this and we need to respect the dead, but people need to learn a hard lesson from this.

QWERTY makes texting harder since it requires two hands and these stupid touchscreen phones mean you need to stare at the damn thing to use it. Back in the flip phone days I could find a contact, T9 a text and send it without looking at my phone.

The electronics built into cars are the same thing, with physical buttons you can eventually do anything in your car without looking at it (radio, lights, wipers, heater controls, etc) but with this touchscreen bullshit you have to stare at the damn thing to use it. Touchscreen radios, GPS, hell I saw a car with touchscreen heater controls a little while ago. How the hell are car makers able to make a vehicle with touchscreens for everything yet portable electronics are illegal because they are legitimately dangerous to use?

Pretty much this:

The law was drafted to protect and stop drivers from getting into accidents while texting and driving.

Right now police are only going after those who do it at redlights, which means that more people stop checking their phone while stopped at ta redlight for fear they might get a ticket, now they are just checking them once they are moving.

So you have really only exasperated the problem.

Also twitchy is right using law enforcement to police something which is nothing more than an "inconsiderate action" is a real waste of resources.

GPS is voice activated and guided and if its not you pull over and get the fuck out of the peoples way who know where they are going same goes for maps.

This.

Most natural way of preventing use of electronics while driving.

Too bad most manufacturers are phasing out manuals now. :okay:
