Eh used tires are fine. A good opportunity to try different tires haha. While not optimal conditions, still worth it imo. Most of the time at least.

Yes, still friends with this person, he's helped me out a ton in other ways. But I'll probably will never buy anything used from him again. While it's not his fault (I doubt he could have known), he's definitely the kind of person that lowballs others and thinks his parts are worth more than they are. I technically only over paid by $75 so whatever. While I normally wouldn't consider purchasing anything from this friend, I was in a pinch and wanted to shave 2 seconds. I wasted my last track day, drifting. Wasn't a total loss tho, learned a bit more about feedback from the car.

I think the CRS had about 8 events on it. I'm just shocked because I've gone through 2 fronts while using that pair of rears, and it still has more usable life than the new to me CRS.

In regards to the RS4, they last so long that I've used the same set on two different cars hahah. And also purchased another set of them used with very minimal tread left, but those were like $200 for the set. Still got me another 3-4 track days, with the rears very much alive. Which I proceeded to do another few track days on the rears . They literally last forever, the issue is if they heat cycle out and you put them on an axle that doesn't get heat.

RE71RS does melt. The first 40% melts quickly, but the pace of wear slows down significantly after that. Then it feels like it lasts forever, and it's even stickier as it gets closer to cords. I probably said "I'll get one more day out of this set" 2-3 times lol.

Try those Nankang CRS. It's a great 200TW tire with fantastic grip and control. It'll last longer if you can do a proper initial heat cycle, and then let it cure for at least 24 hrs.

For my next tire, I am on the fence of continuing with an endurance tire such as the Hankook Ventus RS-4. While they are great, they last too long (FWP) and it doesn't give me the opportunity to try other tires to experiment a bit more. (Insert world's smallest violin.)

Used track tires isn't a thing on a M3....

Why didn't you swap them front and back and run the CRS on the rear and let it dori dori? Or that too scary at VIMC?

Oh man, would be nice to do a proper 24 hour heat cycle. Our club DE weekends are Saturday/Sunday back-to-back.

For the typical track enthusiast, the easiest / most practical way to do this is to just do a shortened scrub in session with the new tires on a separate set of wheels. Once the new tires are scrubbed in, you swap them out and set them aside. Then you continue with the rest of your track day on another set of tires, and you save the new tires for the next event.

For those of us who can't afford two sets of track wheels, we usually go to uh Mexico and find a couple of on-ramps. Do some loops and call it good enough.

I wished I had the luxury of space in my Boxster to carry around a second set of wheels!
