Alright, folks. Who is ready for 2025 track season?

Let me be the first to eat my own words from last year's post. I won't be running with BMW CCA this year due to my return to school. The program isn't easy and I moved into a new role, so time and money has been tighter. I'm signed up for the full season with PCA UCR but may have to bail like a bitch if the going gets tough with school.

No changes to the car this year other than oil change. Hope the tires are still happy. Tech inspection and spring maintenance scheduled early April. Looking forward to a great season this year!

Plans for my 2025 track season is getting derailed bcos of the Trump-induced automotive mayhem in more ways than one.

At one point, I was debating whether I should/could attend some lapping events down in the States, but given tension between Canada and the US, as well as a variety of stricter border crossing enforcement measures, things are now looking very unattractive to me for any of these cross-border motorsports trip.

And then there is the problem of tires. My previous set is almost down to the wear bars, and somehow, I didn't have the foresight back in Oct/Nov to order a new set of tires. So now with all the tariffs and stuff, I wonder how much more I'd be paying for new tires. Or I could theoretically run another set I have that is 4 years old, but they were utter crap even back when they were new.

It's gonna be an "interesting" 2025 season...

Damn, Motul RBF 600 has jump to $30 a bottle now. I remember paying $20 last year? (I know, $10, gonna break the bank.)

I may consider switching fluids next season to ATE 200 or stick to a regular off-the-shelf DOT 4 since I don't really use my brakes. Thank you, momentum car (aka slow)

RBF600 was $30 last year as well...

Get SRF or Torque 700 IMO.

SRF will last 1-2 years withouth flushing, typically.

A 50% increase on something is still pretty steep though.

At this rate, I think I will switch to Walmart Supertech DOT 4.

Yes but how many times per season are you flushing RBF?

SRF is $100 a bottle (1L) - you need 2x RBF bottles to get 1L. The cost increase for better fluid is minimal. SRF has a higher boiling point wet or dry than RBF600.

I only do a flush at the beginning of the season and after July. I guess what I'll try to do is boil the brake fluid this season.

BRB - Going to Walmart.

If you ran SRF you probably wouldn't have to flush for 2 years... so cost is same or less

Damn. My air/oil separator boot is torn and leaking oil on the side of the engine. 4 hours labour + $25 for parts. RIP.

Gonna have to go with used brake fluid now.

Anyone got skid puck recommendations locally?

Or ebay is the only way to go?

I ripped off my front lip last year under hard braking, looking to add some alum skid pucks for the one i just replaced. (Also my parkade isnt C7 friendly.....)

i have a combo of ti pucks and 1/2 inch thick plastic cutting board i chopped up to make skid pucks with on my splitter. as cool as Ti is, i can make probably a 100 pucks for every pair of ti pucks.

One lap and done. I'm happy with the day, a few takeaways:
- great vibes all around the paddock,
- got to track with friends,
- learned that I can have fun without chasing PBs / can have fun bird watching,
- heat cycles are real and cheaping out on tires is not it lol
- Axon (sim racing) works. I'm shocked I was able to save it - twice. Didn't know I could do that. Glad I know now. A bit more confidence in it.
- fwd drift is insane (with the proper driver) cc: Kodamu

All in all I got to try something dumb, a few people got to enjoy my car and got a few lols out of it, AND I get to drive home with nothing broken. It's big af win. While this definitely the dumbest idea I've had, and it's a pretty long list, I'm glad I tried it cause now I know what I want. A bit of rotation.. on demand (when I want it to happen). I much prefer the tires gripping up T12 rather than drifting up it.

The season is over for me unless I get new tires (RE71RS - 255 Square, or 275/255 stagger) and new rear pads (need to uprate to match front), which is not in budget unless we get a minority government lol

Current dummy set up:

245 RE71RS (8+ track days, full tread life but very HC'd, prev used as rear on FK8)
235 RS4 (1118 prod. date, prev used as front on E46 / rear on FK8)

This was a fire sale day btw

Ad-hoc paddock, I suppose.

Did my first weekend at CTMP. Saturday morning was pretty cold, so we all had to take it easy. Sunday warmed up a bit and allowed us to push things a bit harder and get back into the rhythm of things. Otherwise, a drama-free weekend and only one GT3 got black flagged three times.

Took BIC_BAWS car over the weekend at vimc to attempt for chassis record. His stock suspension is still holding up . I was inspired by the fact that two other fk8 that day was hitting their PB too.

Holy scrubbing, did you give bicbaws 150$ worth of tire for that lap?

Would have been faster if it wasn't for the Miata at the end.

Doesn't even matter. those tires are dogshit. I yolo bought it from a friend and took his word that they were "still good for 2-3 days on his car". They were at wear bar. Which is fine. The problem was that they're heat cycled out.

Somehow my 10+ event RE71RS in the rear still has more grip that the worn out CRS in the front. Worn CRS should be grippier than 71RS with tread. Closer to cords, the more grip. Needless to say, I didn't really have a good day, so I was more than happy to let Kodamu set chassis record while trying to battle understeer.

I'm more annoyed that I got shafted on that buy and that friend made it sound like I lowballed him lol. Gave him $350 + taking care of his mounting for the tires. While it's not really this friend's fault, it was not a good deal for me at all. These tires are literally worthless junk, even more worthless than the other worthless tires I ran before.

Friends don't buy used tires from friends.

Serious question, though. Are you still friends with this guy? The track community is generally tight-knit and a good community where people look after one another. Emphasis on generally.

I'm curious how many days the CRS were used to the point of being heat cycled out? I read on various forums that the RE71Rs wear really fast, but unsure of heat cycling. For my next tire, I am on the fence of continuing with an endurance tire such as the Hankook Ventus RS-4. While they are great, they last too long (FWP) and it doesn't give me the opportunity to try other tires to experiment a bit more. (Insert world's smallest violin.)
