Yes, most "analysts" wrote them off, but most diehard fans knew what was coming up in the cupboards. Plus the fact that last year, the flames had the most 1 goal game losses out of any team in the nhl, which means that it could have easily gone the other way. Gio with an injury off the bat.

Most knowledgeable flame fans, knew they would be a playoff contender this year, me included.

do i think they will be a cup contender, no. (though i am open to the idea of Cinderella surprises)

but i had no doubt they would be in a solid fight for a playoff berth, definately not a basement team.

flames wont be a cup contender for another couple of years.

I call BS.

The vast majority of Flames fans thought the team would be just as bad as last year, or at most marginally better. I would venture to say that the people that honestly thought the Flames were a playoff team before the season started are of the delusional type.

Yeah, there's no denying the Flames are doing WAY better than anyone thought they would, but to say knowledgeable Flames fans knew they would be a playoff contender before the season started is BS.

Is this a playoff team? - Calgarypuck Forums - The Unofficial Calgary Flames Fan Community

Even into November, when the team was doing better than expected, most Flames fans still didn't think they were a playoff team.

Tegra_Devil 03-12-2015 08:34 AM

I still say a majority of fans new this year was going to be way brighter. Of course there are those doom and gloom fans out there. But most of them knew this year was the turning point

I guarrantee the amount of fans that thought we were going to be in the 20's in the league are a very small amount

highfive 03-12-2015 09:36 AM

I thought Flames would be a better team (way better than Edmonton) this year after they signed Hiller. Getting a veteran goalie should help them become a more confident team. I just didn't know they would be this good but then there are articles on how they are shooting at a high percentage and they are able to win games. Sustainable? Maybe...maybe not...

The thread from the CalgaryPuck forum says otherwise, and that was already AFTER the Flames got off to a better than expected start.

Even discounting the first three options in the poll, 34 said they were a playoff team, while 100 thought the wheels would fall off.

That's only 25% of fans that thought the Flames were a playoff team at that point. That indicates that before the season started, the percentage should have been even lower.

Lol'd at Flames being a cup contender in a couple years

Colorado had a great one and done season last year too. The flames might have turned the corner or they might be over achieving. We'll find out next year. But in any case, good for them.

I, for one look forward to the day when the Canucks and Flames re-awaken a heated rivalry when they both become legit contenders

Damn, fuck that greedy guy.

spoon.ek9 03-12-2015 03:37 PM

lol, can't really blame the guy for trying to swindle his way into a fat pay cheque. at least management was smart enough to let him walk.

Razor Ramon HG 03-12-2015 03:42 PM

He would've made more money in the long run. Instead, he played one more season and then opened up his own hip hop label :lol

Nabatron 03-12-2015 03:50 PM

Carter fucked up big time! I remember when he didnt re-sign and went to carolina then blue jackets I think! Such a waste of a player then I guess he went to Europe and played a few seasons there and called it quits! He should have just stayed here what an idiot....

punkwax 03-12-2015 04:06 PM

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

Jmac 03-12-2015 06:40 PM

Canucks give up the first goal every game. Doesn't even phase me anymore

6o4__boi 03-12-2015 06:43 PM

Anyone finding their Shaw feed is stuttering a bit?
seems like there's a lag every 10 seconds or so. Kinda giving me a headache.

Other channels are ok, and it's ok during commercials. it's just the game.

n3w8ie-aler 03-12-2015 07:08 PM

Defence is terrible

6o4__boi 03-12-2015 07:10 PM

Yup...it's pretty much gg.

Canucks can never find their gear against the Kings. They're smoking us by a country mile this season

spoon.ek9 03-12-2015 07:43 PM

can't seem to get much going tonight. we used to kill the kings with our PP but well... yeah.
