^ If we didn't do as well as we did, perhaps I would care more. Considering the circumstances, job well done JB.

To be fair, he earned that NTC and he definitely deserved it at the time. I don't think anyone in Vancouver was complaining when it was handed out. That's the player's right what he did, regardless of how dickish the move is. It could've been a lot worse with JB getting shafted in a deal, or letting him walk for free.

But only offered two teams to go to? That's a dick move.

Hondaracer 10-04-2014 07:25 AM

He earned the right to do so wit the NTC..

Pro athletes aren't like you or I, it's not like the guy is getting another job down the road at a different company.

Kes was a soldier for the canucks, guy played his heart out more often than not and finally when he doesn't want to be part of a half ass rebuild on a team that's gonna go no where and wants out all the fans are hating on the idea of him using his NTC to his advantage and going somewhere he actually has a shot at winning?

Prime example of why nucks fans are so shitty.

Ludepower 10-04-2014 08:45 AM

They're exactly like us.
Wanting the highest salary with the best terms.
And dayum right every player should ask for a NTC.
Blame the GM for signing off on it.

#Isles are very close to acquiring CHI D Nick Leddy, according to sources. Have not heard what would go back to CHI yet.
Quote:

Official: #Isles acquire D Nick Leddy from CHI for D Ville Pokka, D T.J. Brennan and G Anders Nilsson.

Breaking: #Isles have acquired D Johnny Boychuk from the Bruins for a 2015 2nd, a 2016 2nd and a conditional 2015 3rd round pick.
Garth Snow thinks he's playing NHL GM Mode.

CRS 10-04-2014 11:33 AM

Wow. These are pretty good moves by Garth Snow.

GrapeDrink 10-04-2014 12:25 PM

these are pretty good moves imo, Leddy is 23 so he going to be part of the long term core and has top 4 potential but plays 3rd pairing on Chi because of the amazing talent in the top 4. + the fact he traded away his 2015 first rounder ... he pretty much has to make sure he ices the best possible team he can to avoid finishing in the bottom and having that turn into McDavid.

jeedee 10-04-2014 12:27 PM

the fact is that Boychuk and Leddy are both UFAs at the end of this season....

if they both walk ala Matt Moulson...... :lawl:

Sw0op 10-04-2014 12:36 PM

Leddy is 23...been in the NHL for 3-4 years..cant be a UFA that early..good trades by snow

My mistake you're right he's a RFA next season

Jmac 10-04-2014 01:53 PM

That Boychuk trade sucks for Boston ... which makes me happy ...

Ch28 10-04-2014 03:11 PM

Great moves by the Isles today!

I think a lot of you guys are mixing up what a NTC is for. The NTC gives the player either limited or full power to choose where he will be traded to, if THE TEAM decides to trade the player. NTC's are not designed to allow the player to dictate where they want to be traded to, if they are the ones wanting out.

When they sign a contract for X million dollars over Y million years, that's a commitment they make to the team to stay with them for that amount of time if the team commits to pay them that amount of salary. If the situation changes and sucks and the player wants out thereby wanting to get out of the contract with that team, IMO there's no reason the NTC should be honoured.

Jmac 10-04-2014 03:41 PM

An NTC is a legally-binding clause in a legal contract. It must be honoured unless the player waives it.

In addition, NTC's I think are also used as a bargaining chip to either slightly reduce a contract monetarily, for cap management purposes, or to give you leverage among other monetarily equal contract offers.

(I mean, who would want to be an $8M player for a shit team, when you can be an $5-$6M player on a perpetually competitive team)

To me, it's kinda douchey to reap the benefits of offering an NTC to a player, and then call them out when exercising the NTC you just offered. But then again, I don't really have high expectations for Canuck fans.

Jmac 10-04-2014 07:02 PM

Can someone teach Sbisa how to play hockey?

WTF was that?

AzNightmare 10-05-2014 04:41 AM

It is what it is.

Kesler always had the "me" attitude, and he wants to win.
The Canucks no longer had a realistic opportunity to win so he wanted to move on. Fair enough.

He had 2 good seasons and has potential to be an "elite" player, but not who are we kidding...
He's far from elite on the Canucks team without any players to support him.
As well with him being injured half of the time, or playing with an injury (excuse?).

I'm actually not all that bothered that he decided to leave. His fit here has been overdue.

68style 10-05-2014 09:01 AM

Yup he was done here, regardless of whether he wanted to stay or not..... just too bad we couldn't get something back from him. It's a pretty disturbing rash of great players (on an individual basis) leaving for pretty much nothing. If you had told me 3 years ago that we would get Bonino, Sbisa, Markstrom, Matthias and Horvat for Kesler, Schneider and Luongo... plus be paying 15% of Luongo's salary as a topper... I'd have laughed in your face.

At least Sbisa seems set to take the heat off Edler this season by becoming our new whipping boy on D :toot:

murd0c 10-05-2014 09:25 AM

just wait I think getting Mccan with that draft pick for Kesler may just pay off for us.

Judging by our luck with drafting, I don't.

Quote me on that.
