40 acres of Highway 18, just past the Tansor road turnoff
45 minutes from VIC.

South of surespan

Jmac 03-27-2015 06:05 PM

Got it, right where that sub-division project folded several years ago.

Manic! 03-27-2015 06:14 PM

Anyone want to google map the spot?

Day at the track, then a 6 pack and a tube down the Cowichan? Sounds like a plan!

update

The property has grown to 150 acres for phase 2 so nobody has to be worried about the size.

Hopefully we get a snow pack one of these years so that's actually possible.

River was too shallow last summer, likely to be the case again this summer :okay:

Klaus T 03-28-2015 11:27 AM

no, one property to the left.

The layout they have is old, before they hired Tilke Engineers & Architects. Lots of old rummors going around. Gain will be releasing more info in the coming months.

Here is a new update this past Tuesday:

Hermann Tilke
Thank you everyone for all the positive feedback and emails about the new track! There have been lots of posts in forums and websites about what it’s going to be and how it’s going to look and even some as far as posting aerial shots and track layouts but please be advised that the layout circulating is not the layout of our new track. smile emoticon At the start of this project, we never envisioned the track would become as big as it was. We simply wanted something more suitable for the island where we could allow our clients to drive their vehicles in a controlled environment. However, after doing some extensive research, talking to our various manufacturers and visiting a few tracks in North America, we quickly realized there was a bigger opportunity and need for a world class facility that will become one of the best motorsport resorts on the west coast.

Vancouver Island, as many of you know hosts some of the best weather conditions in the country and now we will be able to offer an opportunity for all interested enthusiasts to drive at a facility 365 days a year without having to deal with the headaches of dollar fluctuations, border line ups or long commutes.

Since then, we have enlisted one of the world’s best track designers and their track design will be released in the next few months. As you will see in the aerial shots posted on forums and social pages, that is still the old design. We would like to confirm that all zoning and layouts have been approved and construction for the new design for our purposes will take new form in the coming weeks. Stay tuned for more information and thank you all for your enthusiasm.
The question is though, as this venture is

This exclusive facility
is it going to be a private, useless track such as area 27? There is virtually NO information on their site in regards to public availability, track details, costs, proposed schedule, etc.

^^ Sounds pretty obvious to me that they are going straight for the Area 27 high end country club with membership type of arrangement, although entry fee into this "exclusive club" may not be as high as Area 27.

Hmm...

Sounds like it, but even with that most of the local car clubs that do autocross / DE events have been invited to use the track when the dealers are not using it.
So if enough people show up it will lower the cost per person. Who knows if they will host track says as well

Where are you reading that, Flatsix? If local clubs are invited to use the track, then that already means the general public has access to it.

I did not read that in either of their 2 press releases so far, but I'd have to admit that my reading comprehension has been extra crappy lately... FailFish

So far that part is verbal and could change. Pretty much they can do what ever they want and we are all guessing until they announce more

Klaus T 04-11-2015 10:04 AM

The club will be a members club and most likely more member fee than Area 27 based on 12 months usability instead of 6-7 and the whole package that will be offered to members from all over Canada. On-site car storage, technical service to keep cars always in track ready conditions, the availability to set up in alignment and corner weighing the car to drivers preference and so on.

However there should be only 15 -20 days member use and the rest the track is open to be rented by clubs, organisations or corporations.

^^ I certainly hope what you said here will be true -- that the track will be open an available for rental by clubs and organizations.

Hello everyone,
The track is going to be located north of Duncan just off of hwy 18. I have read some of the comments here and see that you are under the impression ( as I was) that the track will cater to the middle class people with their Hot Rods and performance cars well sorry to disappoint but it is for members only with their $100.000+ cars . It is privately owned land so G A I N can do with it as they wish and from what I found is that there is nothing that can be done about it, short of some one organising a petition ( not me I couldn't organise a piss up in a brewery ) but I think you could go and watch and wish for a fee. Does anyone have any other info on this.. I am still awaiting a response from islandmotorsportresort.com to my Questions about this issue.
