ya they're keeping them in Europe - CrossClimate existed for like 5 years before it came to North America

Bridgestone's CrossClimate clone with the similar V shaped tread pattern is staying in Europe for now too.

There is most deff a tire cabal that keeps patterns from us.

You telling me they can make tires for mars rovers, 747's, Veyrons and F1 cars, but somehow just discovered a better pattern for snow????

TBF a big part of the CrossClimate is the compound. Michelin made a compound that can withstand 40c summer driving and yet work at -20c winter.

No way its just pattern, Kumho (lmfao) HA32s, which are like CC2s, do NOT drive like CC2s, although could just be that they are on a RWD front heavy sedan.

But they were like $129 per for 225/45/17, so pretty damn cheap.

Spoiler!

If it snows this year I'm putting dumbbells in the back lol.

the HA32s are soooooo bad lol

But also, that treat pattern isn't similar - we're thinking about the V shaped with single linke through each "V"

Tires nowadays are a lot more about rubber compounds as well. You could have two literally identical treads and if linglong is just copying a PS4S you still aren't going to end up with the same performance.

I just don't get how Nankangs AR-1 from Chinatown can be the go-to race tire, but somehow making 90% of a Crossclimate remains voodoo to everyone.

First I've heard of them being the go to race tire. Maybe it depends on car, but I've heard at club level racing A052s are much better.

edit: To be fair, I haven't heard anyone call them trash, so you point still stands.

The Nankang AR-1s are a "cheater" tire given its rating. And to your point, depends on the car and the club or association one track's with given its capabilities and grip levels. A lot of BMW and Porsche club racers and HPDE folks use them when and where allowed.

Nankang is Taiwanese not Mainland China FYI.

AR-1s are 100TW vs A052 at 200TW, so different "class" kind of as a lot of clubs limit cars to 200tw before bumping them to another class (usually with guys running Hoosiers etc) when they use tires with less treadwear rating than 200.

Making a single purpose compound ain't hard when you're optimizing for one thing.

It's when you have to optimize for every scenario under the sun where even tier 2 tire manufacturers fall short (i.e. non Michelin/Continental).

The real shocker is how quiet and comfortable riding the AD052 can be, also faster than RE71R.

Speaking from friends' experience at the ridge, AR1 seem to last maybe 4 track days before losing grip from heat cycles. They'll set a faster lap time than NT01 but start getting greasy after a couple laps.

Treadwear ratings down there are always a fugazi anyways... NT01s last longer than AD052 and RE71R. 200TW is only so that cheater tires qualify for specific classes

Just put my FIL's winters on his car and just like last year, one of the tires had lost all its air over the summer while in storage. The other 3 tires only lost a few pounds of pressure and they were all stored together in my crawl space which is around 20C and 55% humidity.

Last time it was fine once I aired it back up but wondering if anyone has experienced this where a single tire will lose all its air while in storage?

I mean...if you had 4 tires stored in identical conditions, and only one lost all it's air...I think maybe it's leaking air?

Fill it up, spray the shit out of it with soap-water, and look for bubbles. Then take it to a shop to fix, or re-seat.

Well, it's definitely leaking in storage but once it's back on the car it's fine - last year it made it all winter with no leaks on the car. I'm not sure if it's the same tire this time as last season though - told my FIL to keep an eye on it to see if it does leak again.

Maybe another possibility is slow leak through the beading? Once I had a tire mounted and for some reason, it wasn't quite right and air was leaking through the contact area.

It wouldn't let me stack CL11 with KUMHO12 but it's worth a shot.

Does anyone here run cross climates? Is the snowflake more for decoration than anything or are they truly a 4 season tire? I want to throw these contis in the garbage on the golf, and don't mind spending more for the CCs over a dedicated winter since these tires are essentially no season tires even with 90% tread.
If I need to get 2 sets I'll get something cheaper dedicated for winter then end up doing something stupid like buying some merc wheels with summers and blow money on coilovers for this piece of shit too.

Pretty sure Badhobz and a few others run CC2 - they're truly a 4 season tire. Lots of tests showing that they're 90-95% of a dedicated winter tire in terms of winter performance, and can outperform no-name Chinese winter tires.
