The problem with that is that every idiot and his mother now has vossens on their ride. And the fact that they only make monoblock wheels limits their designs, so you end up getting a ton of people who's cars just look the same.

Your car is obviously an exception given that not many people are modifying vans, but you only need to look as far as audi's or G37's to realize that it gets tiresome seeing the same combination on every car.

Lol I love Eric, and I am good friends with him, but our opinion on this matter is very different. This stems from the fact that he gets them for almost nothing, otherwise I'm sure he would have moved on to other wheels by now (he will refute this, but that's how it works with sponsors). If they gave me free wheels I might shut the fuck up and rock them as well. (Side note one wheel company did actually offer me a set of wheels for VERY cheap, but I said no).

My other problem with Vossen is this perception that they are high end wheels, when in fact they are just cheap cast wheels. Vossen does a fantastic job at marketing the shit out of their product, and people that don't know fuck all think that Vossens are high end cause they see them on GTR's and MB's. Vossen does such a good job at marketing these wheels that they can charge forged wheel prices for their Cast wheels.

The reason why this irks me, is gonna sound ridiculously bitter, and it is to a degree. But that perception that a set of 3k Vossens are high end whereas hardly any regular person will recognize my 10k HRE's. I mean don't get me wrong I didn't buy HRE's for others. I bought them cause flat out I love everything about the brand, and since I bought mine I love everything about them even more. But believe me it does eventually get tiresome at carshows hearing all this talk about Vossen when I just don't see the hype.

I mean you only need to look as far as Niche, STR, etc. To see that they are making wheels that look identical, in fact the wheels came out of the exact same factory, cause Vossen doesn't actually build their own wheels.

Anyway /end rant.

Spoiler!

Let's face it, the majority of car enthusiasts buy wheels for a distinctive look and stance. I get it. However there is a small percentage of car enthusiasts that care only about lightweight wheels. I get it too. However, most wheel high or lower end companies are marketing and design companies only (ADV.1, Pur, Vossen, etc.). Their is only a handful of companies that actually make their own wheels. Imo, if a quality wheel is your priority this is my personal rankings of quality wheel manufacturers;

#1 - BBS - my fav wheel of all time is the LM, but it is acutally quite heavy. F1 is the wheel for guys with too much money! haha!

#2 - OZ - not the most expensive wheel, but they are the real deal. Ask any track guy.

#3 - Volk/Rays - no need to comment here. They are the pros of cold forging.

#4 - HRE - I think they are the best when it comes to 1pc monoblocks, just damn expensive!

I know CCW, Forgeline, Fikses, are all awesome performance wheels, just not very common compared to the wheels I listed above.

I would never buy "new" wheels from any company that doesn't acutally produced their own wheels. I just laugh when I see guys spend huge money on ADV.1 on their high end cars. All they need to do is check out MHT/Niche website and buy the same wheel for 50% of the cost. haha! Also, SR have done a great job promoting PUR wheels, just ask them who makes them for them. lol!

What offset is that? Looks perfect! Thought the rkr only comes in crazy stance offset

Fucking snails doesn't even know his own wheels :troll:

They were 15x7 +35 Rota RB's not the RKR's. These were pre-RKR, also custom ordered from Rota to achieve the offset I originally wanted so there would be less camber and more of a contact patch on the ground.

Ass end of the green machine and my friends 2015 Mini S. Fuck theyre so similar in specs and size. thatd be a good comparo.

Edit: dat thumb in da pic doe.

320icar 04-22-2015 08:39 PM

Comparable in every way but the price I bet. It's so hard to beat Ford value right now

Z3guy 04-23-2015 07:50 AM

^ fit and finish and quality of materials is still higher in the Mini. However, I do agree Ford value is hard to beat nowadays......

smoothie. 04-23-2015 01:54 PM

except ford lease and finance rates were absolute dog shit when i checked last :(

I've never heard a single person happy with the build quality of their mini. Sounds like bmw repair costs with VW build quality.

320icar 04-23-2015 02:06 PM

^^ this. The mini looks nice (the newest ones) but the reliability is still dismal and appalling. Hard as shit to work on. The fiesta of course is the bottom of fords range (yes including the fiST) and you can tell the materials still have budget in mind. But moving up to the focus and higher, the leathers and dash are very nice and textured. Door cards are still a bit plasticey though

Had a whole wack of issues with my wife's 2008 Cooper S. Nice car, fun to drive, etc but it was in the shop all the time. Bet there was at least $10K worth of warranty stuff done over the 3 years we had it. They had to remove and clean the head one time due to carbon build up. Wouldn't want to own one out of warranty that's for sure.

I did a build a ford the other day online and for the Fiesta ST it's 0% for 60 months.

tastic 04-23-2015 02:18 PM

This was the impression I got from anyone with personal experience when the mini was still on the maybe list for the wife's car. They almost universally said they had reliability issues and repairs were expensive and less DIY able for the low-to-middle of the road amateur wrencher like me. I was also surprised by how much a fully loaded new mini cost. The TT had <6000km on it so not new, but we paid about the same as the cost of the new mini we priced out with all the trimmings.

mini Mini story

My 07 R56 had a clutch at 21k kms, a cylinder head re and re at 24k kms and a whole new longblock (and another new clutch) at 30k kms.

Warranty covered everything, but I spent as much time in a chitty base model loaner than I did my MCS. Sold that POS after a year. Panel gaps, rattles and squeaks, sunroof issues.

A real love/hate - I've never had more fun in a stock car either. I ran it up the duffy to the lake in the cariboo a half dozen times that summer.

Guess this isn't the latest pic of my whip - but I think it was the "last of my old whip" so I'm close

Better this way than the other way around.

My FX isn't my primary vehicle, and I still manage to put a few thousand km's a month on it. My km's are quickly getting out of hand on that car.

mb_ 04-23-2015 05:07 PM

Out of hand?! I've done 2,500km on my car in just over 3 weeks. Will be driving down to LA on Sunday :lawl:

Stealthy 04-23-2015 06:21 PM

I've had my brz for less than a year since new and I'm about to roll on 28k.

Life is too short for me to give a flying fuck about keeping my kms low. :accepted:

A car is an appliance at the end of the day. The more km's you roll on to it, the more value you get out of it.
