Japan's Pepper Lunch opening in Metro Vancouver

Pepper Lunch opening first Canadian location in Metro Vancouver

The concept of Pepper Lunch is to put the cooking in the customers’ hands. Diners can “sizzle it their way” by selecting their meat or seafood and then cooking it to order on a customized Pepper Lunch hot plate.

I find this concept kinda stupid.. I mean if I want to cook my own steak I will fire up my bbq and be able to eat and drink in the comfort of my own home...

I can't wait to hear the complaints from customer's that over cook their own food.

Also available in Hong Kong, it's not bad.

PiuYi 01-05-2015 03:17 PM

is this like Mongolian Grill?

willystyle 01-05-2015 03:17 PM

Nothing but gimmick.

JKam 01-05-2015 03:23 PM

It was pretty good in HK. Good quick cheap meal.

buhdeh 01-05-2015 03:23 PM

There's countless korean BBQ places, and others like Shabusen which offer up a similar premise where you cook the meet yourself.

Nothing seems to be hampering their popularity.

Pepper Lunch is about as overhyped as it gets outside Japan. In Japan it's just a fast food joint where you smell like grease and pepper when you leave.

Gumby 01-05-2015 03:38 PM

Stonegrill?

Ch28 01-05-2015 03:40 PM

So basically a ripoff of Stone Grill?

OK I was wrong. Pepper Lunch isn't the most overhyped fastfood joint, Mos Burger is

Tim Budong 01-05-2015 03:46 PM

you can already get this at aberdeen food court, Teppan Kitchen

but i did have it in HK...it's mehhhh

odd tho... this is typical food court cuisine. not a fell fledged restaurant. albeit never had it in Japan

This place is nasty as fuck. Tried one of the places they opened in Vietnam. Of course the locals like it but everything seems prepackaged and cheap.

you must have some really unique taste buds to dislike mos burger.

mos burger is fucking delicious.

Presto 01-05-2015 05:10 PM

^^^
I've only ever had MOS in HK. I thought it was a damn good burger, when compared to other fast food burgs. I regret trying it on the final days of my trip, otherwise I would've had so many burgers. Didn't realize there was any hype about it since it's been around for so long.

HonestTea 01-05-2015 05:13 PM

Pepper Lunch was soooo good when I had it in HK. I can't wait til Yoshinoya comes to Canada/Vancouver :D

+1 to what SP said about MOS Burger, tried it once in HK and once in TW and both times it was mediocre at best..

As Pepper Lunch is a huge chain in HK,

Your results may vary

I didnt like
haha

SkinnyPupp 01-05-2015 05:35 PM

Pepper Lunch is OK... It's not horrible, but I don't like the hype.

Yoshinoya is OK for gyudon too - not the best. I ate tons of gyudon when I stayed in Japan for 6 months last year, and by far the best is Sukiya.

I already miss the Takanomentaimayo gyudon :sweetjesus:
