I use a metal Aeropress filter. I've been using it literally every day (sometimes twice!) for like 5 years now, and it's just as good as when I bought it. Highly recommended if just for the convenience.
It's best if you prefer a 'heavier' brew, as it will let through more oils compared to paper filters. I find it perfect for ice coffee (23g coffee, usually a dark roast, medium-fine grind, 190g water, upside down brew 4 minutes, add 80g ice, stir that until melted then a couple more big ice cubes) |

^ I have a few friends that went with the metal filters and they all didn't like it. I personally haven't tried.

You really have to like a 'heavier' french press style brew. If you're going for a lighter flavour, then yeah definitely use a filter (or two!)

I drink instant powered coffee, poured from hot water from the tap, mixed with my finger, and then 2 minutes later I'm pooping and then showering in the morning.

I prefer the paper, but I'll settle for not having to buy paper.
Lots of fine grind settling at the bottom
Jason, coffee enemas aren't a normal everyday thing.

Tried Tim Hortons latte this morning.
It's somehow worse than regular coffee. There's something very machine oil about the drink. It's like they use the drink itself for gear lube. Which if true, I'm not even mad that's actually a really cool idea.

i've been trying to ween off of my nespresso machines (yes i have more than 1 lol) and been using my stovetop moka
takes a bit more time to prep and clean but it's kind of nice once you get used to it. hard to find flavoured decaf grinds though
i had vanilla hazelnut but after i used it up i couldn't find stock again
i've been going to timmy's and just getting a cafe mocha about once a week.
not terrible but their pricing is so random, some days i get charged a coffee some i get charged $1 more

I got the flow control cap for Xmas and I really like using it. I was an upside down brewer before but I'm back to normal with the cap and I like how it brews (my guests have also commented that they like it better).
re: steel filter - I can't get used to it as I like discarding everything into my compost.

I have a steel mesh filter for my aliexpress knockoff aeropress.
The convenience of not having to use pre-cut paper filters, outweigh the negatives. I'm a coffee noob so I never noticed the oily-ness of running a metal filter.
Finally bought a bag of robusta beans to make cà phê sữa đá, but it's gonna be a while before I can get to it. Family keeps buying coffee even though we've got enough beans to start a coffee shop
I still have half a bag of beans from the Philippines that I've been rationing.

i thought i saw starbucks and mcafe and others | The Still Creek Costco only has ground McDonald's - I bet this varies store to store though. Can probably ask your Costco to look into stocking whole bean.
Like RabidRat I actually don't mind McDonald's coffee. Maybe I just have super low standards but I'm fine drinking that and A&W coffee in a pinch so I'm curious how whole bean McDonald's tastes.

I feel you guys are being hard on yourselves.
The coffee quality from A&W and Mcdonald's is actually not bad. They've done a good job roasting it with consistency year over year, and have shifted more towards the centre from the usual dark roasted coffees you get from the West Coast (You can thank Starbucks for that.)
Re: A&W - I managed to try the new coffee they use from Pret a Manger and it's not bad!

A&W use Pret coffee? I had no idea. Hopefully better than the Costa Coffee you got from Shell.

I got a bean brinder off there and waiting for delivery to use with my moka pot.
not sure if it's an original or knockoff, but it's a bang for buck one that was reviewed by james hoffman
