Back into the 70's now. Oil prices had a quick bump too.

SumAznGuy 01-27-2016 09:24 AM

Gas was $1.009 last night. So close to sub $1.

Tegra_Devil 01-27-2016 10:41 AM

94 premium is 99.9 here in kamloops. costco is 89.9 for their premium

Berzerker 01-27-2016 11:20 AM

Were down to .90 here in Smithers... Pretty awesome seeing the liters go up faster than the dollars.

Berz out.

1.37 today.

Kind of regret not exchanging earlier :(. When is usually the best time to exchange? As soon as it goes downwards or do you wait until it goes back up?

unit 02-03-2016 01:34 PM

if you think its cheap, then buy now and sell later when its not.
trying to time the swings is pretty hard to do and you may as well be at the casino if you're relying on that sort of luck.

If people could predict this, they would make a killing on exchange.

If they told everyone, they would no longer be making a killing

Yea I get that it's pretty hard to predict, but was wondering if there's anything I could take a look at to see if it's generally a good time to exchange. ie: as soon as it starts swinging the other way

I got bored at work one night years ago and made an excel spreadsheet that would take into consideration; the gas prices, exchange, how far you needed to drive to the US and back, the cost in gas, and your vehicle's estimated gas efficiency to calculate if it was worth driving down for gas.

I should see if I still have it...

Should also factor in opportunity cost in how much time is spent and put in a dollar value for that time.
ie if you work and make $20 per hour then use $20 per hour for time spent to drive across the border and back factoring in different amounts of time one may need to cross the border.

I thought about it, but I wasn't that bored.

opportunity cost isnt always fair to calculate though if you'd otherwise be watching tv or jerking off after work.

But if you're crossing the border to do something else anyway, there's no monetary loss to factor in for wasted wages.

Would be interesting to add that part in.
You hear of people driving 10 minutes out of their way or waiting for 30 minutes in line to save $2 of gas.

TV and jerking off time is OT. That is 1 1/2 time.

No, if you are already in the US or live that close to the border, then opportunity cost is low and it is cheaper to buy gas from the US.

Mikoyan 02-09-2016 03:02 PM

Found it. Throwing it up here if anyone wants it. Download the file to use.

Enter the exchange, pump prices, distance to and from the US, amount of gas you need and your km/100L. The negative difference is what you're saving vs filling up in Canada.

seems to be going down slowly.... I think I'll wait another week. It's been declining slowly week by week over the last 3 weeks.

Would have been good to buy on Friday though, it dipped.

Do you trade FX? If not buy it when you need it, regardless of rate. Keep it simple.
