Does anyone have trouble seeing out their rear window at night with 5-20% tint?

About to tint my car. I have some trouble seeing at night relative to the average person.

Does anyone here have trouble seeing out of their rear window at night cause their tint is too dark?

westopher 02-19-2015 11:08 PM

I ripped mine out on the GTI for that reason. Its awful even if you don't have trouble seeing at night with that % tint.

jpark 02-20-2015 12:04 AM

Had 20% all around including fronts on one of my previous cars. Didn't really run into any visibility problems.. and this is with majority of driving done on butt fuck out of no where farm roads with barely any street lights.

nabs 02-20-2015 12:07 AM

20 in the back, dark as fuck at night

what % did you have?

SpartanAir 02-20-2015 12:53 AM

I've had 5% in the rear on 2 cars, which were wagons. Currently I believe I have 20%.

5% is dark but I learned to deal with it. Use your mirrors and be careful. Well worth it IMO, I like the privacy.

But if you find yourself often backing up in areas at night with no street lights, then maybe think about it more.

I do miss having 35% on my side windows, some fuckin Debbie Downer bike cop pulled me over in my Subaru a couple years ago for it. I really like the shade and the extra privacy. Such a shame, as it's totally arbitrary in other provinces but against the law here. :rukidding:

I had 38% on my S-class, it is difficult to backup (no rearview camera) and to view the traffic at the back. Going to try 70% all around, it is pretty much clear tinting, but I guess it would be safer.

tiger_handheld 02-20-2015 06:57 AM

i had 5% on my civic. no issues. you get used it after about a week. it's like walking in the dark..

it's not how you show off your car, it's how you drive it!

6o4__boi 02-20-2015 06:59 AM

I have 5% in my car, got it for, er, privacy purposes
:ifyouknow:

I've been driving with 5% tint for the last five years and to be honest i don't even notice it anymore. Used to give me a hard time at first with the decreased visibility but you learn to deal with it after a while.

Gtrr33 02-20-2015 07:00 AM

5% with no problems, had it for 8 years now.

SkinnyPupp 02-20-2015 07:22 AM

Don't get limo tint unless you drive a limo. It looks so ghetto

I think I had 30 or 50% or something like that, and it was fine. It had a slight mirror finish, so it was dark enough in the daytime, and light enough at night..

GabAlmighty 02-20-2015 07:35 AM

My rear windows are all tinted fairly dark... No problems at all

inv4zn 02-20-2015 08:08 AM

5% in the back..no issues.

Just let your eyes adjust as much as possible, and be careful - unless you have some medical thing lol

meme405 02-20-2015 08:34 AM

I have the factory tint, with another tint on top of that (of unknown light transmission), it was done before I got the vehicle. It's pretty dark, but not to the point where I have any difficulty or worries about it at night.

dared3vil0 02-20-2015 08:36 AM

It will be very hard to see out your rearview with dark tint.

lilaznviper 02-20-2015 10:25 AM

I have 5% on my rear windows. You get used to it after awhile. Been like this since I started driving and no issues at all

donjalapeno 02-20-2015 11:45 AM

15% tint all around and I see everything

fliptuner 02-20-2015 11:48 AM

Half the vehicles I drive don't have a useable back window :lol

Learn to use sideview mirrors and pay attention before you parallel park.

bcuzracecarz 02-20-2015 12:33 PM

I've got 20% all round in the rears and no problems at all, mind you i'm coming from 5% and that was a pain in the ass sometimes, but you get used to anything....I do agree that 5% looks pretty dumb for the most part unless its a limo

Alby 02-20-2015 03:12 PM

5% all around the rears. no problem whatsoever. just need adjust yourself to it.

a00755836 02-20-2015 04:12 PM

have 5%.

at first i thought it was an issue. but you'll get used to it.

brrrz 02-20-2015 04:29 PM

I had 5% in my last car. Was hard to get used to at first. My new car I have 20% and happy with my choice.

Araaadi 02-20-2015 04:35 PM

Had at 5% in my rear windows for past 4 cars with zero issues, newest car came with a backup cam which made life easier.

ilvtofu 02-20-2015 10:44 PM

had 5% on my old Z, it was pretty awful. no problem with 20% on my last 2 cars though, the window shape/size would make a diff too. If you like the 5% look you could ask for 5% on the side and 20% in the rear, it wouldn't really look any different from outside on most cars.
Frankly I think 5% in the rears and 0% up front looks really stupid, I know a lot of people will do something like 50% up front to balance it out but that's also illegal.

clevernickname 02-25-2015 10:53 PM

Thanks for the tips.

Erred on the side of safety and got 20%.
