This.

Yes Sienna is more economical, Toyota bla bla bla. HOWEVER you have to play stupid Toyota dealer games to get it - WORSE than trying to get GT3 allocation.

Also, the drive and interior of the Sienna is so shit for what is a 60,000 dollar minivan. If I'm already going to penalize myself by driving a minivan I want to drive a minivan that I at least like driving. The 10 speed is great, the J35 is great.

What's some extra gas cost over suffering in traffic?

They're entirely different transmission designs. ZF6/8 are longitudinal transmissions designed for FR/AWD designs. The ZF9 is a transverse FWD application transmission.

More gears more efficiency.

Yeah the ZF9 is for FWD transverse so it cost and PACKAGING (space) is way more difficult.
They did an ok job since Aisin/Toyota FWD 8AT also had major drivability issues.

Transmissions are just terribly difficult.
Even if you copy physical layout (which GM & Ford did for 8/10AT), thermo/fluid dynamics makes the GM8 and Ford10 downshifts terrible.
TCUs are another ballgame, they're just as expensive to develop as the trans itself.

I have a '23 Oddy. Bought in late '22. Sienna was a 18-24 month waitlist at the time.
Drives fine with the V6. Has paddle shifters. "Sport mode" AM radio reception sucks. FM is OK, but large areas of Marine drive, I get no reception, due to the transmitters being North. The embedded glass antenna sucks.

Kids classmate's family bought a sienna last year. Was still waitlisted. So they bought a Oddy, immediately traded it in at a VW dealer for the Sienna they wanted. Which had also been traded in from someone who just got their waitlisted Sienna and traded it in for above sticker?

Hearing a friend's dad call in all the time is funny.

Was trying to listen to Canucks game on Sportsnet 650 while driving one time. Gave up and streamed it.

Found that when we got an EV. Interference from the DC motors I think the issue relates to, I heard.

Does the current gen Odyssey still have the variable displacement feature (where they shut off 1/2 of the engine to save fuel?

I seem to recall somewhere saying that the feature is prone to causing engine problems long term.

Yes but that's easy enough to disable. Honestly it is also not an issue for in Vancouver as we do not spend enough time on the highway to really activate this feature. More of an issue in the US where they cruise on the highway for hours.

One of my favorite things about Revscene in the 2 years I've been back, is just watching Hobz's slow descent into madness upon realizing today's Toyota isn't half the Toyota he once loved. "Who am I? What even do I believe in anymore? Do I have a soul? Better buy a beetle."

If I were to pinpoint it, it's the moment dark posted pictures of his bricked Prius Prime.
