Thread Bump, only cause this is the first time I have been here since this thread started. Ya I had a Caddy powered V8 Fiero, but it was not the Northstar. I had the 4.9 with Custom cam, Hand made intake, 6 puck Clutch, and Nitrous. I said I could darn near pull the wheels, but I could never get enough traction. It would either hook and go like a banshee or spin. Too much Nitrous eventually blew the bottom end out of the motor. I am in the middle of getting 10g together that I can drop into an LS3 swap. Figure 450hp and 450lbs of torque will be enough stock to keep my happy for a bit. I loved the 4.9 and it was great for what it was, but trying to get to the next level with it was impossible, they just were not made to be modified that much. The LSx V8 motors on the other hand are a car modders dream. Lots of Vette and Camaro guys are getting 1000hp on stock bottom ends with Turbo swaps that are still daily driveable on pump gas with the boost dropped a bit. If anyone wants the full length version of the video posted above, I have it around here someplace. I think its like 15mins total. That car had the 3.4 Twin Cam V6 great high revving, but not so much torque down low. I want TORQUE, I am a TORQUE JUNKIE.

Ive always wanted to build a v8 88 gt about a decade ago I assisted another shop build a countache v8 swapped fiero. it was a ton of work in the end it was prob faster than the real deal and cheap to maintain.

That is very true, a properly setup V8 Fiero will trounce real Exotics in acceleration and braking, however Top Speed will still usually go to the Real Things.

Now then as to building an 88 vs an 87, there is pretty much a 50% increase in price when you go from an 87GT to an 88GT I tell kit car builders to go for an 87 then take the extra cash and put it into an aftermarket big brake kit and bump steer elimination kit. In the end you will have better brakes and suspension than a stock 88GT, without the EXTREME price tag of 88 Fiero parts. IE, an 87 front wheel bearing is 13 bucks, an 88 front wheel bearing starts at around $150 for a cheap junk off sore China made one, and up to around $450 for a set of Used GM Delco ones. 88 Brake calipers are getting harder and harder to find. 88 Control arms are simple non existent. So if you are building a Kit Car and don't care about collector status or the COOL factor of owning a rare 88 Fiero, just skip the 88's and stick to the early cars. Now reverse that if you are investing in the car, and want to see it go up in value. 88GT's are ranging from $5000 for a poor condition one, to $60,000 for a pristine low mile car. When I say pristine, I mean factory dealer invoice still stuck on the window with less than 1000 miles on the odometer. My Yellow 88GT 5spd car is 1 of 20 yellow 88s imported to Canada back in 87/88 and one of only I think 5 still on the road in Canada. Its got a So So, engine, a good 5spd, a mediocre interior. (no rips or tears just dirty) Sagging head liner and needs a repaint. Its still worth 4-5K just becuase its a Yellow 88GT 5spd car. If it were an 87GT in the same condition I would not value it over $2500-$3000.

So far the fastest street driven pump gas drivable Fiero is running 10.0 flat in the quarter at 140mph The fastest on record is 8 seconds but is basically a tube frame race car. The average for a modified car with either a 3.8 Supercharger / Turbocharged motor, or a modern V8 is a mid 12 second quarter. A LOT of people like the 3.8 Supercharged swap as its as fast as a V8 but does not require any adapter kits, as its the same bellhousing and mounting points as the factory motors. Personally my next Fiero build will be an LS3 (6.0 litre V8) then toss a Turbo on top of that to really wake it up down the road.
