Rim protector bands in the LM

Anyone know if I can buy a product like this in the Vancouver area?

RimPro-Tec | Wheel Protection

The sport package rims on my new ride are worth way more than I care to lose with one lousy parallel parking job, and I'm sick of having to stick out 10" from the curb because I'm so paranoid.

My girlfriend's Asian and she's starting to point out that I'm not allowed to make fun of her parking skills anymore...

trollguy 05-20-2015 09:16 AM

congrats

Expresso 05-20-2015 09:20 AM

Racist.

smoothie. 05-20-2015 09:20 AM

why would you make fun of an Asian Female's parking, if you need to glue plastic to your wheels to avoid curbing them?

Yes. That was the joke.

BoostedBB6 05-20-2015 09:41 AM

This crap wont do anything. Just learn how to drive and it wont be a problem.

ĈonRising 05-20-2015 09:43 AM

Anyone able to see past my obviously malicious comment know if something like this sells in Canada?

I want to make sure I can preserve the value of the vehicle in case I have to sell it, plus I really want the added horsepower from the red highlight inserts.

Or I could do both. Nothing wrong with adding a bit of protection as well as being careful.

BoostedBB6 05-20-2015 10:28 AM

Its a plastic ring, 3mm wide vs. concrete. Its useless.
Unless you graze, ever so slightly, the concrete, this will do nothing for you. And from the site, its being totted as more of a cosmetic thing being able to change the colours of wheel striping.
Do what you like, but the majority of wheel damage I see is far more than just a light scuff on the curb, and thats all this is good for....even then if it simply snaps in place then it will probably snap right out of place as soon as it contacts the curb.

snails 05-20-2015 10:39 AM

point passenger mirror down when parallel parking

/thread

plz for the love of jebus dont put a plastic sticker on your wheels

There are a number of reviews on detailing forums that I frequent, and the general opinion is they are waste of money. Its cheap quality stuff that they cut from a bulk roll and sell for +$100.
A few have used it and they say it ends up popping right off the rims when there is an impact. The change in temperature really effects the adhesive that holds it to the wheel, not to mention any wheel cleaners, pressure washers or anything like that.

IMO, its a waste of money to make the wheels look worse and really do nothing at all.

This level of detail is considerably more helpful. Thanked.

If wheel protection is the concern, I think Dunlop used to have tires that had a built up ridge on the side of the tire that actually stuck past the lip (if properly sized to the wheel) that would help with rash.
Its been ages since I have seen these tho so not sure how much that would help, but I would think it would hold up much better than this as its part of the tire and would be permanently fixed in place.

Honestly man, think about the forces at hand.
4500lb car against a concrete curb. It's enough to damage a steel wheel. Imagine what it would do to a strip of plastic.

I'd look into sonar parking aids if you're really worried. Our get good at adjusting your side mirrors.

BMW has been advertising alloy gator.. comes in different colours to match your wheels so they aren't too noticeable.. I see them more often now and if they don't look too bad, worth it if u cant park.. I know i've curbed my rims a couple of times because i was being careless...

Actually the car weighs only 3300 lbs. AND I had a salad for lunch, so there's that, too. So the plastic should be able to hold. Right?

There seems to be an assumption that because I asked about a form of protection for my car, that I'm absolutely incapable of parking. The fact is that I just realized that my wheels are worth more than some of the cars I've owned, and I was looking for advice on any additional protection or assurance that I can get, in the unlikely event that I completely derp and fuck them up. That's all. Not that strange, and I'm sure I'm not the only person who's been concerned.

Thanks for all the advice, though, to those who took the time to advise. Cheers!

no no no.. we are not letting this thread die just yet. lol

to me (and likely everyone else who replied sarcastically), you are incapable of parking if you need to put condoms on your wheels to protect it from the curb.

i am a shitty driver myself and when i park, i just take my time using my mirrors. unless i'm driving an SUV then all bets are off.

bcrdukes 05-20-2015 01:33 PM

Okay, it makes sense now.

trollguy always selling wheels cuz only people like him curb the rims beyond repair.

snails 05-20-2015 01:33 PM

i get it! its like using ur wheels as curb feelers.. but way more JDM#STNACENATION than using curb feelers!

mirros are way to mainstream and made for fcking hipsters to mount on their single speeds!

mos_skeeto 05-20-2015 01:38 PM

are we really showing off our parallel parking skills to belittle the OP now?

trollguy 05-20-2015 01:40 PM

does that mean we have to post photos of our wheels?

pengu 05-20-2015 01:49 PM

Revscene is weird. I never see people getting mocked for having motorcycle sliders but they mock people for rim guards?

Revscene is weird. People wear motorcycle helmets but don't wear car helmets.
