Take a look at the charts. Heed the number of deaths PER YEAR caused by gun violence, as well as the mass shootings that have occurred in the US compared to other countries.
To put things into perspective, Canada had
131 firearm-related homicides in 2013. In that same year, the US had
33,636. Granted, the US has like 10x the population; but even if you controlled for that, the number of deaths caused by firearms in the US is disproportionately high.
They've got a serious cultural issue down there. Especially with their Second Amendment and shit
