^Intake, lowering and aftermarket stereo isn't a big deal imo. Wonder what the toggle switch under the driver side heater vent is for. Depending on accident and maintenance history, I can't see myself paying more than 15k for that caR.

Nice R! I see AEM CAI, Alpine CD player, random switch to the left of the steering wheel. Seats, checkered mats, shift knob etc look like nice condition. I like the front license plate plugs.
15-20k is probably accurate even with missing vins. These cars are in demand right now. If it had all matching VINs it would be worth a lot more.
I see a lot more WTB ITR ads then cars for sale. The ones that do come up have plenty of stories. http://honda-tech.com/forums/acura-i...017-a-3290658/

Remove the stupid shit and it's a decent caR. I'd be more concerned with the motor build. The stupid shit can be removed and replaced. Perhaps it's a time constraint but the seller should have removed all the dumb stickers, hood, grill stuff, etc. I doubt this will see $20K and rightfully so.

Looks nice from that pic. With 208k and these cars seeming to be missing the usual Honda reliability from that motor though it's going to cost you more quickly I'd bet. What's the story with the motors? Are they kind of like the e30 m3 where they were just high strung for their time making them in need of more maintenance?

if the motor is well kept, it's usually compression-related issues that come with the high mileage. thankfully rebuilds don't even come close to e30 costs.
the other area of concern is the transmission.... synchros
[edit]i'm only basing the above on my obvservations of someone's itr a few years back that had over 180k kms on the odo. original motor, ex-burrard acura car, multiple owners, one of whom tracked it early in its life. it had broken a valve spring and was showing low compression in one cylinder that the seller didn't want to spend money on to diagnose and ended up selling it for a low price because it would barely run and had to be towed away. the buyer had the drivetrain pulled and when they opened it up they found the valve spring and the hurt valve. it was also getting significant blowby past the rings, and both sets of lobes (vtec) on the camshafts were worn enough to warrant replacement. the head gasket appeared to be original and was on its way out, as there was oil in the coolant. the buyer had budgeted for a full rebuild (except for the cams... i think he ended up getting TODAs) so it was expected. valve seat grind, cylinders cleaned up (i cannot remember if they were overbored), head decked... it was all done.
the transmission was a little scary but still okay. someone had mixed up some concoction in the trans fluid to try and hide a 2nd/3rd grind due to worn out synchros, which was all replaced because it ended up getting a 4.785FD installed. somewhere in this was a new clutch and flywheel that went in as well.
the trans and engine mounts were soft and those had to be changed out. the steering rack was also leaking... i think that was because of a core exchange from one of the previous owners that was not put together well.
i think the only other thing to go bad was the brake booster which was dying. otherwise that was it.

Yeah it seems like just more of a time related hassle than a financial catastrophe like with an M motor.

ITR's arent that bad to maintain.
parts are easily sourced. there are a few items that are rare for the discerned ITR owner: oem shift knobs, oem carpets, red canadian seats, oem valence kit, oem front ITR specific leather bras, full factory cat backs.... and so forth, those minor things that fetch top dollar.
Finding a so so condition one to restore or resto mod is a treat, since there is tons of aftermarket support.
Like what thumper said, more of time and logistics issue.

Agreed with what Tofu and Thumper have said. They're old cars now. Also, even Honda reliability can't stand up to neglectful owners beating on them and not doing preventative maintenance.
Easy to forget that it was only a few years ago when ITRs could be had for 10k or less. Reliability took a nosedive when the buy-in was low and they weren't seen as anything special (though I'm not saying they should be considered the super special cars that a lot of people seem to think they are now).

i think the shop had the drivetrain done and back in the car within three weeks, mostly due to delays with the machine shop they went with. they had all the oem parts ready to go beforehand with the exception of the camshafts.

really appreciate the ease of working on those cars... so simple and straight forward.
disassembling and reassembling the car is a pleasure. everything is just there and actually goes back together... *cough* BMW and broken clips *cough*
that era of hondas are just fantastic hobby cars. heck if i had a big enough back yard, i'd probably find me a nice EK CTR to play around with.

Darn near bulletproof yet easy and not all that costly to repair when the time comes. To put reliability in perspective, I did a full track day season (7 or 8 events) with weak compression on 2 cylinders. Kept oil in it and you wouldn't even notice a power loss only some smoke out the back. I even blew the clutch in Seattle and was still able to drive it home no problem. 99% of the money I have spent on mine in the last 14 years of ownership is all go fast goodies or bling/rice parts. The clutch replacement in 2007/2008 was the biggest "repair" I'd done up to that point. When I compare the ITR to other cars like STI's, Evo's, M3's of all variants, and most other Euro cars I almost feel like I'm cheating with how easy ownership is.
IIRC Westopher replaced the entire cooling system in his E36 M3 only to have more problems in the same area not too long after. I couldn't even fathom the headache that would be and applaud those who endure ownership even with those pangs. The ITR has Corolla-like reliability, end of story.
