Why not just increase the timeout? Just make a UI pop-up that says "Just a minute... we're cooking up a great experience, specially for you!!"

If the 2nd tap always works, why not have the app just automatically ping the car twice, without the user knowing about it? Send a dummy request first, have it fail as expected, then send the 2nd one!

There's a "industry standard" on how long an API is supposed to wait for before deeming it a failure and IIRC our timeout already exceeds that, to the point where some people were killing the app and trying to rebook the car, but to give you some perspective:

App -- Booking API Request--> App Server I don't remember how long it waits for, but let's just say enough time.

Here's where it gets real dumb.

App Server sends request to Car Server (Evo doesn't own the car server)
Car server sends waking call to car (not an API call)
Car takes some time to wake up and respond (also not an API call)
Car sends "I'm awake" to Car server (basically none of the car communications are API calls)
Car server registers booking
Car server sends update to car so the car updates it's status
Car server sends "booking ok" response to App Server

NOW, App Server will finally respond to the original API call with a response to that POST. Here's where it gets a little murky for me because I just simply don't remember. I don't remember if the app shows failure to book because the App Server returns a failure due to timing out with the Car Server or the app waits a predeterminate amount of time and then it fails because it didn't get a response.

IIRC it was the latter.

The whole backend was a clustercuck.

I can't imagine spending $9000 in a year just to drive a car.

Understood that it's a great deal. And that if you bought it outright, you'd lose more than that in depreciation. But at least you get the opportunity to amortize that loss over a decade or two!

Sometimes the car is just "doing things" in the background when it's asleep and it's just not available.
I don't believe it's the cell network in general, I'm in decent coverage at home, and it's not an indoor/outdoor issue. Wife's parking spot 6 levels deep downtown? No service there for sure. Home, with Rogers' site 250m away? Coverage is fine. Per Google, it looks like VW primarily is partnered with Rogers in Canada for it's IOT services.

The complaints about the connectivity and infotainment have the same complaint from users; car/service stops communicating with the car/service. or delayed info. If you wait a few days it usually comes back. I've had the Q4 just blank out who the Key Registered user is, and then a few hours later it's all normal again.

Wireless carplay won't connect for a couple days, and then be ok again after system reboot. Or not. And then you have to use the wired connection for a few days. Or one of our phones won't be recognized via BT.

It sounds like I'm complaining a lot about it, but it is really a minor thing overall.

My Odyssey has had the instrument cluster blank out for 30 seconds, 2x in 3 years, months apart. As a user, I'm just chalking that up to random computer glitching.

^^ if that happened on your phone would you be ok with it? You can't call 911 for a few days? Text only comes though when it wants? Can't load up YouTube once in a while? Rs only loads between 3 - 6 am when it doesn't rain. It's not acceptable for $800, let alone a $80000 car.

100% Agree. I'm not the main driver as it's the wife's. It shouldn't be acceptable. But there's no fix, as it's the Audi back end. Opening up a ticket with them ends up as ,"just wait for the server to respond."
It's irritating for me as I'm the one handling charging etc, Wife doesn't even use the app. She just wanted an EV she could just drive like an ICE and had a ICE driving feel.

You could say this about past Tesla stuff too.
It’s just a race between new EV makers to get car shit right, and legacies to get the EV/electronics shit right.

100k car and the door handles break?
60k car and the rear suspension makes me feel bumps I can’t see?
40k car and the trunk doesn’t have a lip to keep water out of it?

Same shit different bucket tbh

Just saw on RedFlagDeals that 12-month leases on Polestar 3 are as low as $655 / month with a total obligaion of $7,860.

https://www.polestar.com/en-ca/offer...25-lrdm-lease/

I randomly picked one from inventory and got an online quote for $868 tax-in and $1,062 due at signing. Not too shabby for a premium SUV with a short commitment imo.

Terms:

first model year from a brand new factory, riddled with issues but if none of them are crippling then that's totally worth it...especially if youre waiting for something else in the short term (ie. BMW NK)

since the US tax credits just ended it's been interesting to see the shifts

tesla raised their lease
hyundai racing towards bottom price

Yeah even though it was $25k off this summer, I wound up still passing on a Polestar 3. The forums are full of people talking about constantly inoperable vehicles. Surprising given the SPA2 platform was fully Volvo internal Swedish engineering, not a Geely derivative or anything.

Volvo has never had that much electronics competency. Their Android Automotive rollout was also not great.

I think it’s going to be easier for new EV companies to figure out the car stuff, esp because they can lean on suppliers.

VW buying Rivian was an opening salvo, I think we’ll see more western OEMs using their Chinese joint ventures to do tech. Ford is already doing this with Nautilus, Explorer refresh, etc that are China led.

Not sure if my math is right but $868 x 12 + $1062 = $11478 / 12000km lease allowance that's $0.956 per km + insurance + electricity isn't that expensive as fuck. It's a better deal to buy a Miata then set it on fire at the end.

yah, I must be from another era ... when is $868/mth for a car payment a 'good' deal ??!!

I thought baddyhobz' $500 per month for the GTI was a good rate. Anything more than $500 per month is too much. How much down was the Hitler Box?
