Wow ... used 1/4 and you went 2500 kms ... incredible. What does that work out to in terms of l/100 kms !! How long has it been? I think what I've been told is that as a general rule, if gas is in your tank for more than a month, then put some fuel stabilizer in.

You only need stabilizer for regular grade gas... if it's premium it's fine...

Storing motorcycles over the winter, if you put premium in everything is good in the spring... but regular turns to fuckin varnish

i was just thinking about my friend's Model X. The dude just blew 12k in repairs (and probably another 1-2k extra for that water leak), on a 130k+ car that needed repairs in less than 6 years... if he bought an equivalent "status" suv... uhh Cayenne? GLE? X5? RX ? etc etc he'd only be out about ~80-90k. There is a possibility the german options will also require 12k of repairs, but thats still a 40-50k difference here. Not sure how you can justify the gas savings in this scenario.

You gotta really drive that EV a lot to make it make sense. If youre doing less than 20,000km a year, the math doesnt add up.

Also people in that 100k+ range probably aren’t (or shouldn’t be) worrying about fuel.

Did some basic calculations with friends and half ton pickups with 5L+ engines you’re looking at 10-12k a year in fuel filling up every 2 weeks. So presumably an SUV would be slightly more efficient.

I’d much rather have almost any other SUV in the model X price range. Imo it’s the worst looking Tesla of the entire fleet

Since we were speaking of increases in charging rates, this is an example of what's to come.

For usage patterns like this, some PHEV user groups recommend only filling up as much gas as you would normally use up in a month (instead of filling the full tank) at each refueling stop. This way, you wouldn't have to worry about the gas going stale in your tank.

Alternatively, high octane gas generally don't break down as quickly as regular 87 octane gas.

as someone whos moved out to langley and commuting about 100km every day to and from work (not counting going to grocery store or anything else during the week) ive been debating on whats the best thing to do here...my 4Runner is running at about 13L/100km and i been going down to the states to get my gas + 3 jerrys. about 200-250$ in gas that lasts me about 2 weeks (without using the vehicle much other than to and from work)

Lately ive been debating on selling this vehicle and just buying something cheap (15-20k price range) with better gas consumption..

As much as id like an EV, i dont think id wanna spend 40-50k on a vehicle (my 4Runner is already gonna cost me about 46k after finance , maybe 42-43k if i can pay it off this year) but i still dont know where id save the most in the long run..if going for a cheap 4cyl vehicle or a hybrid or an EV

If you can find it, and if you can stand it. A Corolla hybrid is the answer here. Sub 30k car that’ll do Prius like mileage.

If you’re looking for the most economical and cheapest ride to own per mile, just see what the taxi guys are using. Prius. Corolla.

What hobz said, really can't beat a Prius nowadays for price and efficiency.

If you can swing it for more comfort get a Camry Hybrid. There's also oddities like this Fusion Energi floating around that has ~40km range on battery. If you can charge at work it'll help.

If you need more space, a rav4 hybrid is probably the most economical SUV option. Starts at mid-30s.

Less of a jump too from a 4Runner down to the Corolla. Though, I think similar issues of finding one in stock. Are the wait times on the hybrids also just as stupid these days?

Rav4 hybrids aren't that bad, maybe 6-12 months? Half the time vs. EV's (other than a Tesla).

i think its all about 6 months to a year for these hybrids. Put in a deposit and see how it goes. When i was buying my LC they told me they prioritize people who had a trade in (so they can double end the deals). If you have a hot trade in, you automatically get moved up to the top of the list and they will get you a car ASAP.

Anyone looked into the 2023 Sportage Hybrid? Fully re-designed and seems to have the largest cargo capacity.

So this is interesting, direct side-by-side comparison or F150 lightning vs ICE truck towing capabilities with identical 6000lb travel trailers:

Seems much like we saw with the Model X towing video, expect range to be cut down by 2/3. They got only 90miles (140km) out of 91% battery charge.

What was most surprising to me is the $27 cost (and an hour of time) to charge back to 75% after those 90 miles. The ICE truck went 155 miles on $93 in gas.
So wasting an hour of your time waiting for the charge means your time is worth ~$46/hr

I think I'll be keeping the 5.0 F150 for a while longer yet....

New Hyundai Ioniq 6 design released today. Love it or hate it, you can't say their designs are bland. Especially like the rear end on this one.

Hyundai/Kia and Tesla are like the opposing ends of the styling spectrum.

Overstyled vs bland

I find Hyundai designs are just copies…. This frontend for example they basically stole and squished a bit flatter/softened up a Lambo Urus frontend. Looks awful.

Didn’t any designers learn from the mid 2000’s Accords and Bangle BMW’s like the 6 series that droopy sloping off rear ends are extremely unattractive?

Been driving our 2022 Hyundai Elantra hybrid for a week now. I can slow cruise a decent chunk of my 15 min commute in EV mode...had a 30km round trip down to 3.6L/100km on the weekend.

Because they keep hiring ex-designers from German automakers.

When they don’t copy, they come up with the current Sonata and Elantra…
