Tesla (TSLA) to stop selling Full Self-Driving package, moves to subscription-only: why it’s a big move https://electrek.co/2026/01/14/tesla...cription-only/
This is garbage.

?
Say ur car reports it accepted 58kWh
if it's 80% efficient, that means the wall fed the charger (58 / 0.8) = 72.5kWh to get there

Seeing a pattern: Xiaomi (collapsing seats in a carsh), now MG (detaching seats).
This still gets FOUR STARS on EU NCAP!
Canada already aligns with EU regs on tech (e.g., headlights/matrix LEDs), which makes sense.
But manufacturers and enthusiasts pushing to align with EU crash-safety standards in Canada feels wrong because that test is too easy, especially for high-speed highway crashes.

For those who haven't tried, V14.2 FSD IMO has solved autonomous driving. 30% of all my driving is now on FSD. I just wished there's a mode beyond mad max as I usually take over not because there's anything wrong, I do that because I want to go faster.
I'd say FSD as of today drives better than >50% of ppl on road and 100% better than Richmond C-lais. It respects the traffic law (say actually making a stop at stop sign instead of just rolling over), always keep the car in lane and depending on the mode you are in, x% over the speed limit. Some might argue whether we should let an autonomous system to break the law, but really, how often do you follow the speed limit at all? On HWY99/1, the only cars not breaking the speed limit are those that get honked at because everyone is doing it.
My wife has always been hesitant on using FSD, but now she's a full convert. Just the other day she was driving her friend's car which didn't have FSD and she hated it. "how am I supposed to drink my coffee and do my makeups on road?"
It is that good. Anyone who tells you otherwise don't have a V14 FSD enabled Tesla at home. Anyone who has one has already grown used to it so much that they wouldn't buy another car without it.
Do we NEED it? No. But it's one of those nice things in life where, once you get used to it, it feels so wrong not having it.

How much was fsd here? I remember last time I looked it was like $12000- $15000? And the math didn't really math cuz at $99 a month you need to own the car 10+ years to break even

I got mine back when it was 8k or something.
Rationale was simply supporting the future and put money where my belief was.
And you are right, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense to buy it out. But I strongly recommend anyone who has a Tesla or are about to buy an EV to really go test FSD out.
At first it's a bit weird, but that feeling should go away within 5min or so. Then it's technology heaven.
It's like having rear view camera. Once you get used to it, it's weird to park without it. You can still park, sure. But just feels something is missing. And that weird feeling is short with rear view cam because you only need it when parking or backing in. Imagine having that feeling the entire duration when you are driving. That's how it feels driving a car without FSD once you get used to it.

I’d trust FSD more if a majority of the other cars were also FSD. As long as there are idiots on the road doing their own thing, I’ll never be on board with FSD.

I am not the best driver even though I did manage to be accident-free for all these years (knock on wood).
And you better not crash with my wife because she is crazy when road-raging. You think those Karens are bad? They are little princesses comparing to my wife.
FSD just takes the stress off. We just push a button and stare at windshield. Next thing I know the car is parked at our destination.
FSD drives like us. On MadMax mode, it actually feels like a driver with its own attitude. Like it's super weird. But yet it obeys traffic law to the letter. Things that we only do during road tests, well, it does all that except keeping within speed limits.

| Carney said through a “preliminary but landmark” deal with China, Canada will allow up to 49,000 Chinese EVs into the country under the most-favored nation tariff rate of 6.1 percent. Under the agreement, the import limit will increase to 70,000 EVs by year five.
We will be getting Zeekr and LynkCo cars.
- Software? Done, avoids the 2027 ban on chinese ADAS because they use Mobileye.
- Dealers? They have Volvo and Polestar stores.
- Safety? Zeekr passes North American FMVSS tests, they just did it for Waymo.
7X is incoming and charges WAY better than Tesla.
I think Tesla will be forced to do finally fix their terrible 4680 batteries and 400V BS.
Everyone else is gonna take like 2-3 years.

That's a pretty solid deal that's a win for both sides that Carney pulled off. I wonder who decides which cars can come over from China as Tesla could eat up a good chunk of that if they wanted but I bet the Chinese govt will pick and choose the winners.

As far as diplomacy goes, it gives him an out with the Americans.
No one other than Volvo (which were already sending EVs here via Polestar) will ship anything to Canada in the next 2 year.
It would have been FAR more damaging if Carney said they were going to allow ECE federated cars like Mexico does because every Chinese EV could be shipped to Canada tomorrow.
If we get any car, teh Zeekr van will come first since it shares platform with the Waymo robotaxi that passed North American regs/crash test.
Mabeee the Buick Electra.
