Thanks for taking picture of the e36 Jimmy!

what a fantastic day! learned a lot and can't wait to go back and improve. and be a little bit more prepared too. good to know where the weak points are and where to start upgrading

Actually I have a question about towing. Most of the participants are from the GVRD. When we sign up, it mentions at the bottom of the page that our registration includes an emergency tow, so what does that actually mean? If someone has driveline failure and cannot drive home, does that tow just get you off the track to the pits? Or to the nearest shop? Or to the border?

I just want to be better prepared I think for next time, I didn’t put much thought into it since with a new car Ford will come pick me up and take care of me.

What a great variety of cars. The NSX looks so sick on the track. I heart the 996 GT3 too.

Gotta ask is the ITR owner a member here?

Here's one of my videos... will be posting more later lol. Had a blast trying to keep up with an NSX

320icar 05-15-2018 01:30 PM

I think my helmet cam hated the heat, wouldn’t record anything over 20 seconds. So he videos I have are pre-lunch on the dash cam, post lunch on the roof mount GoPro. Will go through tonight and cut them / look at lap times

the emergency towing is from the track to the paddock

some events dont have this feature as its an additional cost for the organizer

i do suggest getting BCAA as they provide towing from 'just outside the track' back home in Vancouver

Here's my playlist. In Session 1, I tried out Continental ECS.

Not in the picture I quoted. Was just mentioning it's awesomeness.

320icar 05-16-2018 10:01 PM

finally had time to review my footage.

- first track day for me, almost bone stock focus RS in group C
- started the day with the instructor learning the track, doing around 2:23 second laps
- once signed off, the fiance sat along and i was down to around 2:15 laps
- got down to 2:10 and the fiance was no longer willing to sit in, she fucking hated turn 1

that brings me to the last session of the day (for me) consistently getting faster and smoother. ended up doing a 2:08, 2:08, 2:06, 2:08, then was on pace for a 2:05 but my car disabled AWD mode as i hard braked for the corkscrew. just ended up getting too much heat into the rear e-diff i suppose. did a cool down lap and then decided to sit the last session out. i had done well, the car did very well, why push my luck.

here's a somewhat shitty video of the 2:06 lap

icing on the cake, the whole track day was done on $72 cheapo chinese "Goalstar Catchpower" all season tires. they were the real MVP. definitely was getting greasy by the end of the day, but always stayed predictable and i actually kind of liked them.

i can't wait for the next track day. i really need more seat time and it feels very natural for me. signed up for the group B waiting list for june and july.... here's hoping..

2:06 for your first time is an awesome time

To put it into perspective, I did 2:10 on my first Ridge track day LOL :okay:

320icar 05-17-2018 12:02 PM

Before everyone says it, no I wasn’t timing myself during the event FFS. Reviewing footage after at home.

@Mb_ what kind of time difference do you get with the slicks on vs regular summer tires? Curious just how much good tires are worth lol

I tried the Continental ECS 245/40/17 for a session, was running 2:06. Granted, I wasn't pushing it that hard because I didn't know how the tire would do. I would say I could have brought it down to 2:05 or even 2:04 if I drove on it a little harder. With my Nitto NT01 235/40/17, was running 2:03 during the day. Fastest I've gone on them was 2:02.

kchan 05-17-2018 05:53 PM

@320icar

Definitely request a ride along in someone's car from Group A in June

You will instantly be able to translate that experience into your own driving and shave off some time

thanks!
not that i drove much (only 2 sessions) was way too busy ensuring everything/everyone was doing alright

v67gsr 05-19-2018 10:48 AM

Well done 320icar.

I see you able to mimic what I taught you even in a hot lap. Soon you will be able to develop your own line for better pace.

Keep it up.

Is the new 718 boxter S on revscene? I had so much fun driving with him, we couldn’t pass each other, running near identical times. Hope we can do that again

Holy fucking photo size Batman!

Anyone camping at the ridge this time? Beautiful weather so I chose to. Some huge Subaru event so they shoved me behind the moto track :(
