How many instructors for first time on June 23rd? I've signed up already, but just out of curiosity. And how do you pair instructors with drivers? Noob af here, but I would assume driving tips for fwd is very different from tips for rwd?

i try to pair based on what the instructors normally drive on the track

some are better/more familiar with RWD, FF, MR, etc.

best if they drive the same car or similar (ie. porsche owner instructing porsche guy etc.)

First timer for June is full!

Is there a Ridge/Mission FAQ? Looking for helmet requirements. Is SNELL (within 12 years) the only certification approved? No FIA/ECE?

mb_ 10-23-2018 12:21 PM

Unless otherwise stated by the organizer, only Snell certification is required. Some organizers will require Snell SA, some organizers will also allow Snell M

From my discussion with motorcycle owners, ECE is a standard that surpasses Snell.

Correct me if I'm wrong, you're saying that Snell is the only certification that really matters (to most organizers)? In which case, having ECE or FIA certification would be pointless if it doesn't have Snell SA or Snell M.

On that note, for TSS at the Ridge specifically, which am I required to get: SA or M?

320icar 10-23-2018 01:46 PM

Read the rules. Snell 2010+ either M or SA, but some rule books require different snell ratings if you have a rollcage or not. Every event is different.

I'd happily read the rules/faq if I knew where it was or which set of rules. I've looked on MotosportReg and TSS x Revscene fb page. I'll also be doing some track days at Mission, but since Ridge is the more technical of the two, I'd assume Ridge superseeds any standard of Mission Raceway.

As far as I know, ECE is not recognized as an applicable helmet certification for the track days at Ridge Motorsports Park, Area 27, Mission Raceway Park, and Pacific Raceways for the times I've been there.

You would have to contact the event organizers and/or track administration to see if they'll allow ECE or FIA approved helmets to be used.

Minimum for TSS x RS days at Ridge is Snell M (SA is higher than M for cars).

kchan 10-24-2018 08:42 PM

correct ECE is not recognized by insurance company

so sadly - cannot be used, only non-expired SNELL are accepted

If I have experience driving and have held competition licenses but am a first timer at the Ridge, what group would you prefer I sign up for?

Thanks
Mark

Group B - will be moved to C if C opens up for cars

Based on your experience - im pretty sure an instructor will sign you off after a session or 2 - just to show you around the ridge and give you the basics

**and im pretty sure by end of day you might move up from C to A after ride alongs to ensure you qualify to move up

lowside67 10-25-2018 09:07 PM

Okay thanks - will check the schedule and get back. Any restrictions on running race tires if I want to in lower groups? Also, any ETA on the Area 27 date and can you at least give us what the tentative date is to check scheduling?

Thanks,
Mark

I'm not sure if I missed it, are there any plans to do any days at Area 27 this year?

Hi Folks,

This is a really cool collaboration between this community and a local vendor (who I visited today for the first time).

I've registered for Group B for the July 7 event. I have raced karts, super karts, and formula cars (all many years ago) as well as done some auto cross more recently.

I've owned my BMW Z4M Roadster for just under a year, and done one auto cross day in it. I need to do a few things to prep it for a track day - hopefully I can get these done before the event!

Is the Z4M Roadster OK to use with the factory roll bars? It is OK for many events at The Ridge, but not OK for SCCA events afaik.

Cheers,
Eamonn aka eggman
