Things were different back then. As kids, we had to read the bible and sing the lords prayer. Didn't matter if you were Sikh, Muslim, Buddhist, Jewish, etc.

And, the Queen's portrait hung in every hallway. I am a bit of a closet Empire Loyalist...... just a tad, LOL.

The anthem should still be taught in school and sung at assemblies, Canada Day and Remembrance Day.

It is, at least at the schools I've been to.

I think it was made mandatory a few years back. You can get the principal in a whole shitload of trouble if you report it to the ministry of education.

The ministry will tell the school district and the school district will freak on the principal. Unless, the school district doesn't give a shit, but they usually do, 'cause bad publicity.

Not exactly anthem ish, but everytime I hear it, it gets me right in the feels............... except for the en français, lol

I think it would be much more reasonable to first remove all references to religion prior to worrying about references to one particular gender.

... but that's simply not as buzz worthy in this hyper gender neutral climate.
