SkinnyPupp 07-14-2016 08:14 AM

I hope it doesn't scale at all DansGame

320icar 07-14-2016 08:55 AM

So.... Can I play my cartridges in it still?

**edit**

Note that an AC adapter for the USB cable is required to play the system but is not included in the packaging.
Why the fuck would you not include a necessary cable, you scumbag nintendo

They do that in Europe and Japan but not usually in NA.

And no, it's smaller than your cartridges. Of course it won't play them :seriously:

Mr.Money 07-14-2016 09:01 AM

sneaky bastards...if i knew they would release this i wouldn't even have paid 8 Dollars for super mario bros 3 on Wii U

they've been doing this to the DS handhelds since like 2 years ago or so. their reasoning is people who are buying a new DS probably has an old DS already thus a charger is not included.

unit 07-14-2016 09:18 AM

definitely gonna buy this. a part of me does wish it had bluetooth controllers but i respect that they kept it simple to keep it original feeling and also to keep the price down.

Spoon 07-14-2016 09:38 AM

Read somewhere that it was going to retail for $80 in Canada.

As much as I'd love to relive my younger years, I have a feeling that I'd just buy it for nostalgia and never touch it. So I'll pass. Price isn't that great either, unless you really wanted all the games they have to offer.

logic of peace

604STIG 07-14-2016 09:48 AM

Will it still require blowing air into the cartridge repeatedly, until blue in the face, to get it to work?

Presto 07-14-2016 09:58 AM

Canadian price is $80 for the console. $13 for another controller.

They should have made it so the games ONLY work if you do that. lol

That's nostalgia for you. :awwyeah:

CorneringArtist 07-14-2016 10:37 AM

I wonder if Bo Jackson got a nerf in Tecmo Bowl for this version.

Manic! 07-14-2016 11:08 AM

You could built a retropie system for a bit more and be able to play way more systems/games.

80 sounds pretty reasonable, how much do the originals fetch on ebay?
i'd consider it if someone finds a hack to put more games on it

Traum 07-14-2016 11:25 AM

Holy shxt... $80?! Plus another $13 for the controller too...

But damn... all those games are gold doe...

hard to complain about the price when a single AAA title for the ps4 costs the same.

If you take a time machine back to when Donkey Kong was released. I'm pretty sure you'll pay the same price as that AAA title today after inflation. :drunk:

Ikkaku 07-14-2016 11:57 AM

Wait, you need an ac adapter just for the USB cable....what?

The thing is powered by USB. Chances are, if you take your 1A or 2A USB phone charger, and plug the NES mini to that USB charger via the USB cable, the unit will get powered up.

way more actually, back in the early 90s games cost like $60-90 on NES

Mr.Money 07-14-2016 12:27 PM

what happens if this sells like hot cakes?....do we get another wave of new games on the same system?....$80+ another $80 dollars......and mini super nintendo next for 80 again?

30 dollars and im there buying this...or else i'm just buying a usb nintendo 8 bit controller from eBay and use the emulator with every title released.

Traum 07-14-2016 12:33 PM

Personally, I would expect Nintendo to have a follow up plan ready, and allow the device to play some additional games stored on some sort of external storage. The most obvious method would be to use the thing's built-in USB port to support some sort dock / external storage. From that point onwards, anything is possible.

But in that case, they should have made the NES mini like this:
