Geez, so close to silver though!

fliptuner 08-14-2016 05:49 PM

I think silver was a stretch. The only thing that got him bronze was a great dip at the line.

HonestTea 08-14-2016 05:49 PM

DA LIGHTNING BOLT!

MG1 08-14-2016 06:02 PM

pastarocket 08-14-2016 06:03 PM

Way to go Di Grasse!

The first medal from a Canadian man in these Olympics. Finally! LUL

RRxtar 08-14-2016 06:36 PM

looks like bolt towed him thru that race. without him following bolt i think he might have gotten 6th or 7th. he had to hit a PR to get there

Ludepower 08-14-2016 06:44 PM

Gatlin blew it. Almost had it but seemed like he choked and tensed up. Grasse almost caught him for 2nd place.

Canadian women lose to the Germans in the soccer semi final match today.
FeelsBadMan

They play for the bronze medal now. Germany vs. Sweden in the gold medal match.

6o4__boi 08-16-2016 01:34 PM

was watching bits and pieces of it
they honestly lost the game themselves...the Germans capitalized on their chances and the Canadians couldn't bury theirs

Buchanan's boneheaded tackle in the box that resulted in the first goal via PK was just :fulloffuck: :fulloffuck: :fulloffuck:

hud 91gt 08-16-2016 02:24 PM

My sister sent me a Snap of the local news.

My highschool has 4 Olympians in recent years (maybe even this Olympics? I'm not following closely).

God damn, if dodgeball was a sport they'd have 5 ;)

Agree 100%. Things didn't change for Canada until they adopted a more dynamic mindset. They had their chances (I can remember at least 3-4 A1 chances in the German box) but they either muffed it or shot right at the German keeper/defender. Mind you, that was also after Germany decided to sit back as well.

That said, I was pretty impressed by Fletcher. Unlike most of her teammates, she seemed to have the patience, ball skill, and vision to really free up the forwards for chances. She was least guilty of just panicking and giving the ball away/out of bounds. Scott looks like she's going to be a great offensive option going forward as well. Even though this one sucked, it looks like Canada is in good hands going forward.

All those friendlies (losing) with the US is starting to pay dividends :P

It was pretty exciting event. Derek Drouin cleared every single attempt on his first try and had 0 misses. Talk about impressive!

MG1 08-16-2016 06:37 PM

This is high jump and not pole vault, yes? Our medal favourite in the pole vault kind of blew it, from what I heard. Was he the same dude who caught the bar with his pecker?

Gotta tie it down, mang. With those hot track and field chicks scampering about, can you blame these athletes?

EDIT: Found it!

Spoiler!

Damn, I thought it would be a black man..................

Hondaracer 08-16-2016 06:39 PM

high jump and pole vault are both pretty great TV

RRxtar 08-16-2016 07:33 PM

Kinda disappointed at cbc primetime coverage. Always seems to be volleyball or soccer or other 'games', not the quick interesting events like athletics, diving, gymnastics, etc

MG1 08-16-2016 08:02 PM

I want to watch the Irish station/commentators............ they is funny. When Irish eyes are smilin', so is the rest o' the world.

R: Michael, you've a lot to get off your chest after that

C: Yeah, AIBA are cheats, they're fucking cheats. It's not about that, that's me done, I'll never box for AIBA again, they're cheating bastards, paying everybody. And I don't give a fuck that I'm cursing on TV. And retaining this here, this here is MY olympic gold. My dreams have been shattered now. But you know what? I've a big career ahead of me. And these'uns? They're known for being cheats, and they'll always be cheats. Amateur boxing stinks, from the core, right to the top.

R: You stayed in the ring and you acknowledged the fans, and people from nations around the world - not just the Irish fans - cheered you when you put up your hand as number one. Do you feel know that the boxing federation now needs to take a good look at themselves?

C: Yeah, like Katie (Taylor) yesterday, no way she lost that fight - it was a close fight but she didn't lose. Today, I thought I boxed the ears off him in the first round, and they scored that one against me. So I had to go to his fight - which I did, and out-fought him. And eh, you know they were just being a bit... - it's a shambles to be honest. I don't even care what I'm saying now, probably just blubbering on... But I'm gutted, from the bottom of my heart I wanted to go back with the gold medal to Ireland, but now I'm going back feeling like a loser. No, I'm not a loser, I'm a winner. And the day just showed how corrupt this organisation is.

R: Michael we'll give you some time to gather your thoughts. Thanks for your thoughts, back to you.
