Car backed into me - potential damage? Waiting to turn left from a side lane, guy in a Civic doesn't see me somehow and backs into my passenger side rear bumper. :rukidding: I was absolutely destroyed when I felt the impact, this car has 0 claims and literally about 3 rock chips on the front end. Rest of the paint is immaculate. Would have gone mental if this was significant damage. Luckily these cars were built pretty strong so it held up ok. State right after the hit http://i.imgur.com/GuvcU1Cl.jpg More detailed damage Spoiler! Overall im just glad it wasn't a lot of damage. My main concern is the one indentation, the scuffs probably buff out. Could there be possibly damage underneath? It was a small impact admittedly but I don't want to get screwed over driving somewhere and having my bumper fall off or anything. Guy is dead set on settling privately; long story short he wasn't legally allowed to be driving at that moment and he took a family member's car without consent. Advices? |
DJ KHALID! From what I remember, there's a process in which ICBC allows you to settle privately. |

TBH, the damage looks minor -- though that may be due to the quality of the photos. I can barely see a dent. Would the nick and scuffs warrant a repaint of the lip? |

Let ICBC deal with it |
ICBC! Don't let dem feels make up your decision. |
How much is an OEM lip? If he is really dead set on settling outside of ICBC, i'd start at that cost. If it comes unpainted, double that cost. The only reason I say this is because it sounds like you want to avoid respraying the back of the car if you can. Which makes sense to me. You've got a car with immaculate factory paint, I wouldn't want to mess with that either. From the looks of the picture, the damage looks minor and I can't imagine underneath is anything different, impact seemed minor. |
Let ICBC deal with it. Assuming you got all of his information, there wont be any money coming out of your pocket anyway. If he wasn't supposed to be driving legally, let it be a lesson for this guy. Yes, I'm an asshole at times. |
I agree that the damage is minor but still, why should I have to suffer with an imperfection on my car for someone else's mistake. I am up for second chances though, if this goes through ICBC he's most likely going to be in a lot of shit and probably not going to be driving for a very long time. I don't want to be the one to do that to someone but he will have to be willing to pay. Will probably seek a dollar amount. If he refuses then I will seek ICBC's help. If I get canadian pricing for the a-spec lip its going to be like 700 bucks before install. US pricing i can get for 500 cad plus install so probably 700 total. |
Was this thread necessary? There is barely any damage at all, everyone is saying go ICBC but you still insist on private settlement. and no... that hit won't make your bumper fall off or cause undercarriage damage |
My recommendation is don't worry about giving that other driver a second chance. He is 100% at fault. I would keep a driver like that off the damn road... :rukidding: If you still want to settle privately and since the damage is so minor, I would seek a fair dollar value, fix the damage yourself, and keep the rest for (lots of) beer. :fuckyea: |
If you go through icbc....expect a $1000 ding ....cost of materials and labour is stupid high nowadays and you may have a body shop claiming you need a new bumper which would increase the claim amount even more. That looks so minor. Buff it out....heck turtle wax bug n tar remover will probably work. |
If you go private and get all that shit done. What happens if the new paint job has imperfections to the point a body shop wont repair it anymore.. Its happened before. No one is going to help you after that. Or you can go through ICBC, let the guy deal with his mistakes(learn his lesson, I hate people who drive that arent supposed to), any imperfections you can go back to the body shop till the finish is done to your standards. Does buddy know you have it on camera? |

You have insurance for a reason... |
you do all the legwork and take on some risk... or you let icbc do the leg work and take no risk (but a claim on your car)... i'll take the latter. i don't have time to admin the repair and deal with the guy. next thing you know he'll be trying to negotiate with you, oh it's too expensive that's not really that damaged, etc.... especially if you plan on keeping the car makes little difference if there's a claim on it IMO |
For this minor amount of damage I'd want to avoid respraying the back half of a car with immaculate factory paint. $700 for the lip. 400 for painting it (assuming it comes unpainted). and 300 for installing it and other miscellaneous damage. Ask the guy for $1400. If he says no, then tell him your going to go through ICBC. Then after you get the money, you get to decide if the damage warrants you buying a whole new lip and going through all the hassle. You could just get a really good detail and get the detailer to wetsand and polish that area good, and then pocket the other $1000. |
He threw it in reverse and didn't see your car, seems like he didn't look back. What if he hit a kid? Guy shouldn't be on the road. |
I just don't get how he continues to back up thinking that there no one behind him without even looking...does this guy jus back up regularly by thinking no one is behind him every single time? Such a dumbass....and to top it off driving when he isn't suppose to. |
1. Go through ICBC, not have to worry about getting all the damages taken care of. And if he doesn't want his insurance to increase, he can pay ICBC back - which he has a year to do. 2. Go private, get some money out of it - risk finding hidden damages underneath or in other places. Also, the cost of that lower spoiler from Acura is $640 pre-painted + 1hr installation which equals about $800. And if you're going through ICBC, there would be a 0.5hr to polish that muffler tip so you're looking at roughly $850. |

My mom did this for a minor bumper scratch from an accident. She just pocketed the ~$600 from ICBC. Mind you, this is years and years ago. |
Sorry Bruh I know you love you car, but that 'damage' is a joke lol |
lmao tax that guy if hes not allowed to drive, or bring him to ICBC and he will be fucked even more |
