$40 for 4gb and unlimited talk/text from virgin, worth it?

Saw this on FB:

Plans - Virgin Mobile Canada

You have to switch your province from ON to BC to see this. You guys think it's worth it? Currently paying $80 for 2.5 gigs on telus and I usually go over, last phone bill was $145 lol.

Is the service any good? I use my phone a lot for work and school, and I'm all over vancouver/surrey/abbotsford/burnaby/richmond so I can't randomly lose service lol.

There's more discussion in http://www.revscene.net/forums/71077...-mobile-5.html

but short answer for you is yes. You'd save $40 a month for 1.5 more data. How can that not be a better deal.

Bell uses Telus's towers here on the west coast. You shouldn't see any difference in service

alwayslive 11-17-2016 08:33 AM

Is Public the same thing as Virgin? I think this is some of the best news I've heard in a while lol

No. They are a subsidiary of Telus. Bell uses Telus towers out West for their service. So while they're not the same, the service area/reception will be the same.

Armind 11-17-2016 08:39 AM

I heard Telus is not offering all of it's towers to PM? True?

MarkyMark 11-17-2016 08:48 AM

Can someone explain why Virgin, if it's owned by Bell, offers plans like this yet if you were just with Bell you'd be paying a lot more for the same plan...? It would make sense if you were offered more towers or something but if everything is the same what's the point of the higher rates?

Sorry I don't know the answer to that. From what I can see having used PM for 2 weeks, I have't noticed any lack of coverage in GVRD.

You can ask the same about Rogers and Telus. I suspect they are just catering to the business crowd or families that want a singular account of shared devices. They (might!) offer better customer service, but for most people that's moot so they decide to pay less for their monthly services. For instance, Koodo charges for a talking CSR from what I read.

SSM_DC5 11-17-2016 04:27 PM

For the Fido ppl who got the plan, is it just $40 + taxes? Does it include caller ID and voice mail? Are they making you sign a contract? Is it eligible for any discounts on the new iPhone or new exploding Samsungs?
I'm paying $45 + taxes for limited talking and 500mb. :-(

lilaznviper 11-17-2016 04:35 PM

Fido $40/4GB deal is so damn tempting. Only thing I wish this planned offered is "roam like home" feature. I asked my buddy that works at Fido, said this deal is cheap. If I travel, just get a local sim LOL.

SSM_DC5 11-17-2016 07:00 PM

Thank you to the ppl who posted that Fido is doing this deal. I wouldn't have known about it because I don't go on RFD. Just made the switch using LiveChat, took like an hr to get it done, but it's done. :awwyeah:

getting a local sim isn't too bad. I have friends who have a sim for the states. Pay for the sim, then get charged per day of use and reload it when it's out of money. I borrow their sim when I go to the states and just pay them back for the usage. It's not that expensive.

jeedee 11-17-2016 08:13 PM

is it $40 before or after taxes lol

On fido you can add unlimited canada wide for $12 dollars. So $40+$12.
