New for BC, special park edition license plates

Remember before the Vancouver 2010 Olympics when you could pay extra to get special commemorative license plates for your car, and the money went towards the games? Today the Province and ICBC launched something even better: you can now buy BC license plates with images from our provincial parks on them, and the money you pay for them goes to the Parks Enhancement Fund. It’s all part of a thing called the BC Parks Future Strategy where the government is investing $22.9 million to build a couple thousand new campsites as well as starting something called the BC Parks Foundation with a $5 million endowment.

Pictured below are the 3 designs. The first features Porteau Cove on the Sea to Sky, the second a spirit bear and the third is of the Purcell mountains in Southeastern BC. Show your pride in British Columbia’s natural beauty with a park-themed licence plate and support our provincial parks and protected areas.

Starting January 29, 2017, three new BC Parks-themed licence plates will be available for purchase from your local Autoplan broker. All net proceeds from the sale and renewals of BC Parks plates will be re-invested back into provincial parks through the Parks Enhancement Fund.

Three unique designs
Each plate depicts a scene from one of B.C.'s parks and recreation areas.

That plate with the Purcells mountains design is sick!

That third plate design with the bear looks a bit funny. Is the bear photoshopped so that the animal looks like it is smiling?

FYI these are the costs

Quote:
The three B.C. Parks plates will cost $50 to buy, and an additional $40 a year to renew. The funds raised from their sale will be invested into B.C. Parks to improve programs and services above the core levels funded by government. They are set to go on sale on Jan. 29, 2017 at Autoplan brokers.

Awesome designs. I'd rock any one of the them but the mountains and Kemode Bear are dope.

Finally! Our generic plates are so hideously ugly. The personalized plates with the zig zag for Northshore mountain are a complete joke.

My Olympic plates cost me $125, and IIRC they didn't cost me anything to renew on a yearly basis.

Let's face it, the BC gov't knows that we are willing to pay the price to be unique like everyone else. What better way to show your friends at the country club that you're a pedestrian workaday grunt then to show up in your beemer with a regular person plate.

Hell, I'd be willing to pay the price.

^it wouldn't matter that you rolled in on your brand new Individualized M4 with Akrapovic exhaust and BBS rims on fresh rubber. You'd still be a peasant in their eyes with a regular plate.

When you mentioned the zig zag you got me thinking about a new BC plate for 2018, commemorating the legalization of pot.

That peasant driving the Aventador didn't even get an "8" or a A in his/her plate number either.

They look cool, but they look like they'd be a bit tricky to read (especially at night or on camera). Not as bad as those Olympic plates though.

So how does it work? do they re-make your current plate but with the background you choose? or do you have to get a new number

hmm, I still have an olympic plate, but these do look nice.
Does one just have to call around to find a good set of #'s?
