| WHAT is your average 'COMMUTE TO WORK' time?
just wanting to get a sense of how long the commute is for people on here :
(with all the congestion we're seeing here and of course on shiddy rainy days when people forget how to drive)
HOME TO WORK?
WORK TO HOME?
TRANSIT or CAR?
...and in your opinion, where is 'YOUR' threshold? i.e. if it takes more than an hour, it isn't worth it to me.

8 min, both ways by car.
12 years ago, I used to do 40min/1hour.
My threshold is now nil. I cannot sit in rush hour traffic, anymore. It's so much time wasted.

Average about 40-45 mins with transit. On a very good day, around 30-35 mins.
With car, I would only save about 5-10 mins.
Each way.
Not worthy to drive.

15 minutes if I take the highway
17 minutes if I take the country backroads
Come december when my office moves, it'll be a 1.7km walk.

35 to 45 mins home to work
40 to 50 mins work to home, 30 mins if i leave work late and catch the tail end of rush hour
definitely car, i can't stand transit
the only destination i'll take transit to is downtown
1 hour is probably my threshold...but if im listening to a good podcast, probably 1.5 hours at most but my threshold is also affected by the fact that 80% of my route is through the highway...so even during the shittiest conditions, i technically still cover longer distance
i can't fucking stand being stuck in traffic within city...my threshold in city is probably 20 mins. Nothing worse than sitting at Hastings and Clark at 430 in the afternoon and 30 minutes later still waiting to enter the highway.

With little traffic, I can do home to work in about 20 minutes. If there is shitty bridge traffic, closer to 30 minutes. It's a comfortable drive. Whenever I move (which is likely soon), the drive will unfortunately increase by a few minutes.
My threshold though is 30 minutes with no traffic. I really have no idea how people do 1 hour commutes each way by car. Pitt Meadows to Vancouver... ughhhh

30 minutes each way when I'm also dropping off/picking up kids from daycare. 15 minutes each way when I'm on my own. Hwy 1 between Abbotsford to 264th was such a huge source of stress, which I am glad I no longer have to deal with, as I take the Fraser. It does suck when everyone clogs up the Fraser when there is an accident on Hwy 1. I've had times where it has taken 15 minutes just to get through the 264th intersection.

wow... my current commute has me thinking of quitting my job and finding work nearer my home.
HOME TO WORK: mornings: if dropping off kid to my parents 1hr 30mins
mornings: if no kid, 1hr
WORK TO HOME: 1hr 20mins average
and i drive. essentially to the downtown core from surrey and then downtown back to surrey. However, i'm willing to try the Port Mann bridge but from what I've seen....the bottlenecks along 1st ave through to hwy 1 before the bridge wont save me any time during the 4pm to 6pm rush.

Morning door to door just under 1 hour, drive to surrey central(10 min) - train to downtown 40-50 min.
Afternoon can be up too 1.5 hours depending on traffic and time of day.
Transit I dont mind so much even with the odd delay here and there pretty decent and gives me about 40 minutes to nap lol. I think driving my threshold is around 25 min anything beyond that is to much.

12 minute commute by car, from home to work and vice versa.
Threshold? If it is a 30 minute drive, then it's not worth it.

Approximately 45mins via car or public transit.
In my younger days, I can't imagine not driving to work. Nowadays, you can't pay me to drive to work. Sure, it sucks to be crammed with a bunch of people. But time passes by A LOT faster when I'm browsing on my phone versus being stuck in traffic.

Threshold ...I'll do anything for money.

15 mins at 4:30 AM.. 30+ mins at 5:30 PM when I get off. And reverse those for night shifts.. Burnaby near highgate to Renfrew & Broadway. Pretty happy with it, could be worse (there's someone I work with who commutes from Chilliwack). And transit is not an option to get to work by 5 AM

45 mins @ 6 am, Surrey Central to BCIT
30 mins @ 5 am
Depends on where I am on site when I head home for return time.
Threshold 45 mins driving. Ideally, 2 km walk to work. That would be the dream.

With 2 weeks of vacation, stats, and weekends, there's about 240 working days in a year. If I was still doing the Coquitlam/Richmond commute, that's, at least, 90 min per day. Optimistically, that's 360 hours (15 days) of nothing but commuting each year! UGH.

To work: an hour door to door by transit (West Coast and bus)
Return trip home: about 75 minutes
I would feel pretty shitty about life if I was stuck in traffic for that amount of time, but lots of people do it.

By car:
15 to work
20-25 to home
By Transit:
30-35 minutes both ways (skytrain all the way)
I have to deal with boundary though if I drive (which I predominantly do) pretty sure that shaves off a few months of my life each time. Anything more than half an hour by car is a no go.

Car to work: 25 minutes
Car from work good traffic: 20 minutes
Car from work regular traffic: 40 minutes
Car from work with accident on the cut or ironworkers: 1-2 hours
Transit to and from work: 1 hour 15 minutes both ways
Just not worth it to transit for me, maybe if they built a skytrain to the north shore.

I almost exclusively transit as I live near the Skytrain. 30mins tops each way(sometimes the trains stop outside the station, notorious for Broadway and Waterfront). 40mins if the train decides to have minor delays.
I occasionally drive to work because I need to be in Richmond or something after work. It's about 30mins-40mins to drive to work but it's not worth it because I can be doing some browsing instead, and also parking ridiculous at Waterfront.
I used to drive 40mins to work and 50mins home from Burnaby to Richmond. HATED it. When I switched jobs to DT, the commute was shorter, and much less stressful. Unless the a job is give me a 50-100% raise, I wouldn't consider a job where I have to drive

Contractor, so commute varies.. a lot.
It really depends how much value you put on time, property size, and income.
