| Proper Table Manners and Behaviour Thread
I'm at the Buffet at Grand Villa Casino. Twice in one week, lol. Free is always good, Gulolol. Anyway, I'm just appalled at the lack of manners by people.
There's nothing worse than displaying poor manners in public than at a restaurant/eating establishment.
Dude next to me keeps wiping his runny nose with his hands. Elbows on table. Face close to plate while shoving salad into his mouth.
A couple of days ago, one guy was chewing his food like a cow. Mouth open and making weird sounds. So gross. Did these people not have parents who smacked them up the side of the head for being pigs at the dinner table?
Bring food to mouth, not the other way around.
Anyway, this thread is companion thread to Engrish 101. Should have titled this thread, Manners 101.
If you have stories of poor behaviour post them in this thread.

Lol my brother-in-law who works at Costco was just saying this weekend how he's had to bitch at so many people over the summer who were sampling cherries and spitting the pits back in the package or on the pallet. 
Bonus points - guess which location.

I wasn't born with a silver spoon in my mouth, but I was taught that manners are important no matter where you are. I guess this thread can go two ways. Gross stories or one in which the uninformed can learn a thing or two. I'm no angel, and I can use some tips. And, yes, an old dog can be taught new tricks.

The table manners that annoy me most are when there's a group of 4-5 people eating at a casual restaurant, let's say cactus club as an example, and they're sitting in the dinning area. Most groups will like to keep to themselves but every now and then I get placed at a table beside a group of assholes who's voices rise with every word they say. By the time their sentence is over it's as if they're screaming what they're saying but the kicker to it is all of them are doing it at once and it's as if they're all trying to over power each others voices. Generally it's younger Asian men in their 20's but occasionally it'll be a table of white guys speaking Croatian/Serbian/Greek/Russian etc.
If I'm with someone else and they're rude to our server I'll be embarrassed to be sitting beside them. Please and thank you should be used when talking to them. I've cut dates short over a girls snobby attitude towards a server as if she's just a peon with a slave job.

You ain't see nothing till you eat at a Chinese restaurant or in China. People in China literally spit their bones on the table. Yup on the table. This happens even in high end restaurants.
I sat next to the person so eats really loud so I ate even louder while facing towards him. He learn pretty quick not to do that.

If anything, I'd consider watching other people eat pretty rude. Disgusting things like wiping runny nose with hands are obviously rude but elbows on table and face to food is their preference. (different story if sitting and eating beside someone) Eating noises are also a grey area. There's no way im not going to slurp my noodles because its considered rude in some cultures. (the asian way, not the white people way where the suck up the noodles and push away the broth/sauce with their lips.)

As a CBC, I was taught proper etiquette at the dinner table. No slurping of food or spitting bones out on the table.
As for your question about table manners in China, I saw none whatsoever when I visited the smaller Chinese cities or even the big cities like Shanghai.
Peasants!
I also think that culture does come into play when it comes to table manners. A buddy and I were at a ramen shop in Tokyo a few years ago. We ate our ramen noodles without slurping up our food. All the locals were slurping their ramen like vacuum cleaners.
Then the noodle shop owner smiled at the customers slurping up their noodles while giving me and my buddy a cold stare. We did not know why we got the cold shoulder at that noodle shop.
Then we found out later that in Japanese culture it is considered good table manners, and proper etiquette to slurp noodles and the soup to tell the cook that the food is good. If a person eats the noodles quietly, then the person is showing their displeasure towards the meal.
Proper etiquette and table manners in Canada can be viewed differently in another country like Japan.
Who knew?

My parents periodically go so they get free buffet and free food vouchers in the mail all the time. Its gotten so bad that we actively avoid eating their casino food cause we've had it so much lol
Silver Reef Casino down by Bellingham does the same thing except they take it even further. Their mailer vouchers give you free hotel stays at their casino, so it's a great place to spend the night after a day of shopping in the States
Richmond Costco is living hell on earth. You can't pay me enough to go there.

i've never understood elbows off the table. i usually have them off the edge anyway. are you supposed to keep your non eating arm by your side? seems awkward and potentially messy

i learned some bad table manners from my chinese friends, like putting a bowl up to your mouth and using chopsticks to scoop rice in! lol
my family is from korea so they don't pick up their bowls, they tend to leave them on the table and eat from there.

If you have stories of poor behaviour post them in this thread. | I may not be as well experienced in life as you sir, but I have seen some of the least mannered people at casinos or in situations related to gambling.
1) 5 of us were eating at a nice restaurant in Las Vegas, mom's friend left the table no less than 5 times during dinner to gamble (ate a piece of sushi whole and walked away)
2) drunk guy losing money and cursing at dealer when he lost his all-in
3) On the Macau Ferry I have seen people line up 10 at the door 10 minutes before arrival, and then keep budging at the immigration lines

I have seen and literally heard terrible table manners and etiquette at work.
This old FOB who sits near me burps every day after he eats his Chinese take out food for lunch. Every, Fucking, Day. It's like clockwork! 
-slurps that fried rice like there is no tomorrow!
I'm trying to find an empty desk to move so that I do not have to sit next to this pig eating from his trough.
Karma is a bitch though. That FOB spilled an entire bowl of wonton soup and noodles on to his desk one day. It was so hard not to laugh that I had to send instant messages to some co workers to share some humour. We had a good laugh later that day.

The shaking leg thing is something I'm HORRIBLE at. I do it all day while at work and I notice I do it sometimes while I'm out for dinner but I usually stop once I see my beer or water having ripples in it from the vibrations. Even as I'm sitting here at work right now my right leg is rested on top of my left knee and is bouncing up and down haha. I'm always moving around, if it's not my leg or foot shaking/tapping then it's one of my hands playing to the beat of a song inside my head using my thumb and last 3 fingers.
