Going on Saturday for the first time in 20 years lol, do people living around the PNE still offer parking? What's the going rate nowadays?

hirevtuner 08-28-2017 08:34 PM

$10 at someone's lot, $25 for the lot across pne

Alpine 08-28-2017 08:51 PM

$15 for the hotel next to the pne.

TOS'd 08-28-2017 08:55 PM

$20 at the Northwest PNE lot next to the Coliseum.

They're a normal staple in a lot of places in SE Asia where meat protein is expensive (bugs are extremely high in protein).

I will note that for people's houses the prices fluctuate and go as low as $10 but can be up to $25.

alex.w *// - It may have been uber packed or felt like uber packed but trust me, it's still way less busier than it used to be by a long shot. Some days way more obvious than others. When I talk about past I ain't talk about like well when I was a kid over 20 years ago. The numbers they release at the end of the year stating attendance don't lie. Here's an example of their last 8 years.

2016 - 712,367
2015 - 678,193
2014 - 769,242
2013 - 712,049
2012 - 763,689
2011 - 803,598
2010 - 937,485
2009 - 855,137

I'm sure if you follow the attendance farther back you'll see they they were usually in the 900k's.

I was going to park in the lot across from the PNE entrance, but didn't get cash yet. I ended up parking by the Catholic school on Slocan. It's not too far a walk, and I saved 25 bucks.

For those that have gone... worth it this year? Aside from Superdogs and touring the house, not sure if there is anything else I want to see.

Worth is hard to define with PNE imo. For me, it's always been about the nostalgic factor plus it's the freaking fair which only happens once a year.

Spent the entire day there today..... well, almost. Took in some shows and performances. Was disappointed in Northern Lights display. Had the usual food from Jimmy's, Hunky Bills, etc. Tom Cochrane, meh. Hockey Hall of Fame, meh. Still a good day 'cause it was free. Not complaining, but nothing really wowed me.

Vansterdam 08-30-2017 05:43 AM

went yesterday. Superdogs was whack and seemed shorter compared to other years.

tried a bunch of new food items and nothing stood out.

that cheesy jalepeno corndog was bomb though

choked they had no cherry cola ice cream available

winson604 08-30-2017 07:31 AM

Went again yesterday with the wife and kid once in the day and again in the evening. Did different stuff than we did when we went a week ago. Food again was meh, even worse this year actually. This year it feels like too much shit is cooked ahead of time and just sitting. Kid won a couple paw patrol dolls and rode a pony. He had fun so that's all that matters now lol.

Hondaracer 08-30-2017 08:00 AM

I agree the comment of stuff being made ahead of time, especially fried stuff.

Had the foot long bacon wrapped pizza dog, was pretty good, 7/10

Also had the "crazy pizza bites" which were just single peices of pepperoni inside rather than like a bunch of small slices like the pictures showed, tasted pretty good but again seemed like they had been cooked prior then quickly flash fried again, would have been better if it was crispier.

Had one of those Prague cone ice creams as well, so far the highlight of the food there. The cone is good and their soft serve is killer. I recommend getting extra soft serve if u get one

Verdasco 08-30-2017 08:12 AM

is it me or is there a lot more people going this year than previous?

looks busy idk why, maybe due to radio advertisements and signs everywhere (buses for example)

the magic show is pretty sick

A LOT better than previous years (last years suck except for the chinese card flicking legend)

shawn farquar? went to fool us by penn and teller, he went on and fooled them twice! which is nuts! He is from maple ridge which he advertises in the show and won magician of the year in a macau competition. He has an impressive resume and does great with the crowd.

he doesn't do anything as great as this trick shown but still amazing nevertheless.....

there is another magician with curly hair that performs in macau all the time as well. Great great show :ahwow:

and why did my gators BBQ ribs suck, never pulled out of the bones like soft meat :okay:

gonna go again today try out the place beside gators!

edit:

this trick is fcking amazing too

how the hell does he do that? contact lenses? he said he didnt use any

Nvasion 08-30-2017 07:29 PM

shawn farquar was awesome at the PNE, very fun to watch.

he did this trick at the pne. awesome!

Traum 08-30-2017 08:58 PM

Quick dumb question -- where is a good place to park for going to the PNE?

danned 08-30-2017 09:45 PM

free or paid?

Free would of course be better, but I am not opposed to paid parking either if the rates aren't outrageous.

danned 08-30-2017 09:58 PM

i guess you should find a spot along rupert street (turner street to charles street)
watch out for the NO parking signs(big square sign) some residential parking signs

k2_alpha 08-30-2017 10:48 PM

Take a Evo or Car2Go and park on Rupert by Callister park. We drove to an Evo that was near PNE and hopped in. Drove to Callister park and parked. Cost us roughly 4ish dollars round trip with no hassle at all. Plus there is an entrance by the Coliseum that no one lines up at.

FerrariEnzo 08-31-2017 05:57 AM

I doubt I would go on rides, doesnt seem too interesting enough and plus the line would be long as hell... Just check out some shows and stuff.. Going with some co workers and we would all share parking, so it shouldnt be too bad..

Hondaracer 08-31-2017 09:06 AM

Car2go and Evo car you can 100% legally park in any of those spots around renfrew where people have chairs/water jugs etc trying to block the spots. They dont own the street parking and its completely within your right to park in those designated areas where it says "residents only"

winson604 08-31-2017 11:53 AM

Yea there's a couple ways around the parking depending on how desperate, cheap, smart or otherwise.

Car2Go\Evo definitely is an easy win, depending on your scenario either take it from your house to the park or drive close enough i.e. Broadway and Renfrew as an example then pick up a car from there and park like 1 block away in a signed area.

If you're crazy enough and maybe it isn't so crazy if you don't live far is take your car there the night before and park it in a free spot i.e. AR Lord Elementary. Then get a ride home and get dropped off the next day and leave with your parked car.

Or of course you can just pay, people have said some house parking is as low as $10, shit that's pretty good I spend just as much parking at a random meter downtown on any given day.

N.V.M. 09-01-2017 04:13 AM

bus there, taxi back. cuz beer gardens.
